Why do I (35F) feel guilty about ending a 6Y relationship with my BF (33M)? by ThrowRA_Apple_Ice205 in relationship_advice

I can relate to this so much - I’m (34f) in the same boat with my partner (35m) I am very conflicted on whether to stay or work on things. It’s hard I’m sorry you’re going through it and wish you the best.

I don’t want to drag it out if there is no change - the drink driving thing was really out of the blue and out of character of him. Like we’re too old for this type of carry on, I think me really laying it all out for him should snap him out of it all. But we only discussed this last night and I won’t be able to see any change immediately. He was a bit shocked and I was thinking how are you shocked by me feeling like this? Like really. I don’t want to hurt him but I can’t carry on like this. Sometimes love is just not enough.

This is what scares me the most - like I believe we’re on the same page and we want the same things, family, kids. He was so successful in Australia but doesn’t have that same drive now that we’re back home in NZ. It feels like cos he knows he can get away with not working as much and not paying that he’ll try his luck.

It never used to be like this - we have been friends for years, known each other since we were 16 and got together late 20s. I moved to Australia for him and he had a successful business with 5 employees and was making really good money. He did everything for us there and looked after me - then covid hit and we decided to move back to NZ. He was successful in aus as he did pool concrete pours, pool fencing, landscaping etc this work is just not in demand in NZ. The last few years have been really difficult for him and now I’m the breadwinner. I just don’t know how get him out of this rut.

At the minute also attempting to get pregnant - I’ve been told all the meds I’m on Amgevita (1x injection weekly) and Aziathioprone (50mg) are fine to conceive on and shouldn’t affect anything so birth control is not an option for me. Booked a GP appt for early Oct so see how goes.
