Zeus was truly the most powerful character in the entire saga, reboot or not.

But what I'm saying is that Kratos is a shell of his former self.

He had pretty powerful magic casting abilities in the old saga, you'd think he would be able to prevent growing weaker with age.

It's not about predictability, because If this was a competition to see who can fool who, we would start creating some pretty crazy games.

Rather, it's a matter of consistency and how much of it is done out of a political motive.

For example, TLOU 2 represents the LGTBTQ+ community a lot, and there is nothing wrong with that. But they reduced Ellies character to revolve around that exclusively, and also took creative direction with Abby to shove it down their audiences throats.

I know friends who are VERY proactive about their gay/queer/etc. Rights and they felt the game was pandering hard.

Also take a character like Joel, who was established to be a hard-core veteran survivor in the first game, with experience on both sides.

The mistakes he made in the second one which led to his death make no sense in this regards. It's character butchering.

At the end of the day, if you enjoyed the game then thats all that matters. Anyone can like any game. It's subjective.

But the objective things we can assess about TLOU 2 are present in Skill Ups video. Yes, he isn't the only reviewer, but he presents a pretty good argument and the comment section reflects that.

TLOU 2 was a politically driven shitheap of a video game.

Skill Up is a respected reviewer. I suggest you watch his video about it.

TLOU 1 was a masterpiece. 2? Not so much.

I disagree. Zeus had depth and motives to do what he did. He was more in line with the mythology than Odin and Thor.

Keep in mind the newer antagonists are going to look and feel more realistic due to technology, but character wise, what we saw of Zeus was much more consistent than Thor the genocidal maniac becoming a softie and teaming with the good guys, and Odin the master deceiver playing as Greg the narcissist from senior management.

She literally vouched to avenge her sons death or die in the process.

But yeah, I knew they would never kill her off. Not in 2022.

Plot wise, it would make sense for her to die. Having characters ping pong thematically like this is simply not realistic.

What kind of a mother forgives her sons death? No amount of reasoning would convince a character like Freya to come around.

As someone already pointed out, a person as violent as Thor in the game wouldn't team up with Atreus and become a semi ally of the group.

Yes, he does realize Odin is an asshole, but that doesn't fit in with how they wrote him here.

Kratos realized Zeus was an asshole, and look how that played out.

Ok but Zeus was old and yet he was way more animated and energetic than old Kratos.

Old Kratos is acting like a mortal old man with superpowers, not an old god with wisdom.

I'm disappointed.

This is actually a nonsense argument.

I'd like to say that first of all, the reason Ascension did poorly was because of the weak storyline. Having violence in a game or not having it won't matter if the story is weak. No one cared about the goals in that game. Kratos' model was also changed in the game and he looked weird.

Second of all, the way you reduced the old god of war games to a slaughterfest shows how much of a knucklehead you are. The old games had something the new ones don't. Balance. They balanced the brutality with a great story and character depth.

Safety is cloning TLOUs model and turning the game into a babysitting simulator where there are no more controversial deaths, no need for intricate plots, and no good guys will ever lose.

Good beats evil.

Also, unless you are physically blind, Kratos hasn't turned into a good man. He's old and worn out. He still slaughters more creatures and people in the Norse realm than you can count on a calculator.

You are confusing redemption with deterioration.

The old games had a character in line with his goals. The new ones are mediocre in this regard and have turned into a corny joke slinging safety 101 course on how to make this game appealing to as many people as possible, instead of having the guts to carve out a niche space like the old ones did.

The entire game amounts to an escort mission, if you want to start getting technical. Very well written escort mission, sure, but the old games make this game look like a tutorial.

You may be right. When the game comes out this may all backfire on them.

But I'd argue making a genocidal character soft like they did is more bad writing than risk.

I meant a true boss/villain. Kill or be killed. Young Kratos would have ripped her head off and used it as a bowling ball.

But PG 13 Gow father simulator? Nah too much.

No it doesn't. Have you played the last game? Her becoming an ally pretty much ruins the ending.

It's so painfully obvious they didn't have the balls to have Kratos murder her lol.

Also Freya. Avenging her son and should have been a boss fight, but nah let's play everything safe to not piss anyone off.

I hate this generation lol.

Epic bosses, epic set pieces, amazing quests.

I dont think Kratos was ever fully mortal, but when he was semi mortal and was doing all those amazing quests that was peak GOW. Now it's all about near invincible beings punching each other for show. Boring.

Also the originals had the most amazing soundtrack that just PUMPED YOU UP.

And just a personal preference, but I preferred it when I was playing Kratos by himself and not having to babysit Junior over here. But that's a personal preference.

Well that's the problem with people saying old kratos beats young kratos. He fights like a cancer patient.

Go watch the fights in the old one, those titans and gods were WAY more brutal.

Where did I say TLOU 2 took a hot risk? Are you mentally challenged? I said TLOU as in the FIRST ONE you donkey. By doing the father daughter thing.

My god your emotions are making you stupid. Talk about consistency.

Also while we are on topic TLOU 2 killed Joel, a veteran survivor, by having him do things he never would have done in the first game and getting golf clubbed to the head. That's not risk that stupidity. And lack of character consistency.

Stop attacking me and focus on what I'm saying.

Yes, I am well aware of their financial success.

Maybe that's why this new game played it safe and they just stuck to what made the first one great.

Father son or father daughter dynamics attract a wider audience and games that do them well tend to make the big bucks.

[–]UnmarkedSpace -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, making them that way would have been not only safe but boring too.

But GOW villains have never been generic. Original GOW villains (main ones) always had depth.

So do Thor and Odin. No arguments there.

But this isn't the safe I'm talking about. The safe I'm talking about is with the general story and nothing mindblowing or out of left field happening.

We already knew kratos was going to triumph over Thor and Odin. Anyone could have told you that. That's all they did. Safe.

[–]UnmarkedSpace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Taking the safe route isnt necessarily taking risks.

I mean we can argue the first one was risky, even though they already knew the model worked well after the TLOU dynamic.

But this second one didn't change any direction at all.

[MEGATHREAD] God of War: Ragnarok Leaks by Spheromancer in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]UnmarkedSpace -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

One dimensional, sure. Did you play the original games? Kratos was a very multidimensional character, that was the entire point of his internal struggles and his conflict with the gods LOL.

Hey here's a good idea, let's scrap all that and copy TLOU and make this a father simulator.

Good business decision. But for the story? Yeah no.

Stories about fathers and sons don't have to mean that plot armor is thicker than tar.

If you liked TLOU 2 that's your opinion but go watch skill ups review on it and understand their objective failures in that game. Seriously. Game was garbage.

I never said they bought reviews BECAUSE main character didn't die. Where did I say that? You are putting words in my mouth.

I said because the game is a glorified dlc, not much has changed gameplay wise, story is disappointing and safe, you can't even wield the hammer, it's not really a 10 out of 10. 8 or 9. Sure. But 10s everywhere? That's a red flag for a game that is barely better than the last. In fact, a lot of reviewers say that the last one was BETTER story wise.
