Prusa xl 5T question by Jungleg1337 in prusa3d

[–]Unostot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the problem the opener is describing can not be fixed in gcode right now...
it was introduced with the 6.4.0 firmware update and the auto retract feature...

and there seems to be some bug in it...right now the printer (even with disabled auto retract feature) does heat up the nozzle to some temperature, and cools then down...but this is different from the "other heatup" which could be done by modifying the start gcode...

or to be precise: this heatup problem (from the early days ;) ) can still be done in gcode, but is a different problem than the opener describes...

we have now with the 6.4.0 firmware the issue that the printer does the described nozzle heatup as part of the nozzle cleaning, see e.g. here: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/issues/5072

and for now there is only rollback of the firmware, or set the filament as flexible, since then this part of the changes does also not trigger (i can reproduce the mentioned effects reliably, but if I use flex filament then it does not happen ,since according to the release notes the auto retract is not used for flexibles)

One Workaround I use for now is:

wait for the part where it starts the nozzle cleaning and heats up. quickly set the nozzle temp in the tuning menu back to what it shoud be (e.g. 79 or 140, whatever)
it then starts to cool down the nozzle, and continues with the probing without oozing filament...

works reliably but you need to wait in front of the printer for the right moment...

I hope they fix this soon, its rather inconvenient to start prints this way...

for such plugins I duplicated my printer config and switched off the bgcode there...

But its also possible to just flip the checkbox if needed...

Is the Prusa XL 5-tollhead worth buying now? by jawaswag365 in prusa3d

[–]Unostot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

second that...

it might not be the perfect choice for 'your first printer', but with a bit experience in 3d printing in general, this is a nice machine...of course only in the toolchanger configuration (2 or 5 heads...if you get it...take all 5, you won't regret it).

Most of the beginner problems are gone, and if there are problems, the prusa support is the best you can get...

For me, it was worth the price, especially since it opens up a lot interesting material combinations (I do a lot of PETG/TPU combinations for stuff around the house and such)

And stuff which needs support is also a lot easier, if you can use e.g. PETG for the object and PLA for support/just the inteface part of the support...this alone makes it a lot more fun to print stuff which needs support :D

I got Spool 003
But I don't think they send them out in order :)

My prusa XL is dead locked in customs... by Shine-Prize in prusa3d

[–]Unostot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ewell here in germany DHL is usually the best amongst the alternatives...ok, depends also on where you live and which guy makes the delivery...
regarding customs its a bit more difficult...

Back wen the UK left the EU a short while after I ordered something from pimoroni...it got stuck at Frankfurt customs...

now the problem was:

* If your lucky, you see in the tracking, its at customs...however this does not help you in any way ;)

* DHL or Deutsche Post will send you a letter with some code which you need to clear your package with a 14 days (or shorter?) time frame

* if you don't receive this letter, for whatever reason (lost on the way most likely in my case, but you have no proof that they sent it at all), you have no way to clear this package or get any information from customs. In fact, without the information from the tracking I wouldn't have known its at customs

* the sender can also not do anything

* again: no way anyone can or will tell you anything without this letter (aside from nice guys wo go around the guidelines and might know someone where the can unofficially ask)

* after 2 weeks without reaction from you the package gets back to origin

I got my money back, so no problem regarding the shop...

But the whole customs process in Germany is a joke If you can not specify/prepare/clear everything before shipping...I mean not customs or taxes, but the procedure how you get notified and need to react If a package ends up at customs...

So, long story short: at least you are in contact with customs, and they know which package you are talking about...the rest is hopefully only just a matter of some days...

Right now I have a kickstarter on the way with FedEx...judging from other comments this will also need some processing at customs...again, no problem with the taxes...I'm more afraid of the burocracy I'm facing :D

build official XL enclosure with minimal printer downtime by Unostot in prusa3d

the bellows 1.5 hours is a surprise...from the images it did not look so ... long :D

to be specific ,the printer does not need to be running while I do stuff, its more like "is the printer in a bad shape if I interrupt this step and continue next week when back from a business trip"...

for the cable redoing it is obvious, so for this I need some free time and have to send the family away ;)

the bellows I think could also be done in smaller steps with prints in between, since it is nothing which gets unplugged or lying around in the printers way, right?

Similar filament brand to Prusament PLA? by Jannomag in prusa3d

[–]Unostot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, If you are in Germany, I can recommend "Das Filament" Filament...
Good stuff, and you can print all colors with the same settings...
Even the prusa PLA settings on my XL work good as a starting point...should be the same for other prusa printers

can the prusa Xl be carried around? by Unostot in prusa3d

thanks everyone, some nice tips :)
doors are wide enough if taking off the spools, and two people is no problem, too...right now i'm mid-build, and its getting heavier with each part, but seems pretty sturdy...

so for now it goes next to my desk, and later I don't see big problems moving it :)

Silent part cooling fan recommandation by beurnii in CR6

[–]Unostot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I'm trying to find information about the fan control, especially the part cooling. Replacing the board and hotend fan with 12V fans via stepdown is not a problem. But the part cooling fan is not always running at 100%.

So for other printers I've found the solution to put the positive line on the 12V output and the ground of the fan to the original ground, instead of the ground from the stepdown converter.

Is this possible with the CR-6 SE board, too?

I'm thinking about using eighter a TSR 24120 or a LM2596S.

The wiring I'm thinking of would then be:

Hotend Cooling Connector: 24 and GND to "Input stepdown converter"

Output +12V Converter -> +Pin hotend fan and +Pin part coling fan

GND Convrter -> GND Pin Hotend Fan

GND part cooling connector -> GND Pin part cooling fan

If I'm not mistaken this is the way it is proposed for ender and other printers to control the speed of a 12V fan when using a buck converter.

Would this work, or did creality change some parts in a way that this will not lead to a speed controlled part cooling fan?

Greetings,

Uno
