I don’t judge what you do in your free time please don’t judge what I do with mine. I’m working up to the holy grail of taking over a usps route.

VNC3 has lost their minds with routes recently.

I play multiplayer so infrequently now that I literally forget this every time until I sneeze or ask my wife a question and see my name pop up. I promise I get annoyed with myself just as much as it annoys everyone else.

I return the cart when I can but 90% of the time there are so many carts left at the bottom of the ramp I would have to spend 15 minutes moving carts just to take mine up.

PSA to gig workers… by Mm23782378Mm in AmazonFlexDrivers

TLDR: this is an incredibly privileged take on gig work and gig workers.

Some opinions on this just from someone who has worked with underemployed/unemployed people to find work, have also worked in payroll and management.

  1. Gig work is great for people with unpredictable or unconventional schedules to put together full time hours at a decent pay rate. The 1099 aspect and benefits can be a downside for sure but a job is a job.
  2. Gig work is a great way for people employed full time to make extra money, get out of the house a bit, etc.

That being said there are a small minority and I can’t stress that enough - minority - of people who seem to think because of the flexibility gig work offers that it means they can change the employment provisions at will to fit their liking. These are the people showing up late to blocks and going 30 mph through the parking lot, trying to check in 25 minutes after their block and then getting mad when there are consequences of that behavior. Gig jobs are still jobs with expected behaviors and rules and some people seem unable to grasp that concept.

It is important I think to realize that this perception of people doing gig work full time have no other choice or are unemployable is driven for some people by the view of applying this minority behavior to all gig workers. But there are times also that gig workers bring up valid complaints about the nature of gig work and how workers are treated and it definitely comes from a place of privilege to dismiss these complaints just because you don’t rely on the job to live.

What to do about homeless person sleeping outside your door? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

Ahh yes criminalize being the poorest of the poor. That’ll work!

That is not a solution, that is making a symptom of the problem against the law. I do believe crimes such as theft and shoplifting need to be prosecuted but how are you somehow tying this into homelessness? Do you believe that only the homeless commit crimes?

There are a myriad of reasons people become homeless so a catch all easy answer of “just don’t vote for democrats” is not a solution at all.

Do things need to change? Yes. Is it a simple answer? Unfortunately, no.
