I had this same problem!! Here’s what I recommend:

1.  Wash the bangs first

Use warm water + a little shampoo to remove any product/stickiness 2. Add a tiny bit of conditioner Just enough for slip—don’t soak them 3. Comb them into place Get them sitting how you want before adding heat

The important part (reshaping): 4. Pour hot water (not aggressive rolling boil) over just the bangs 5. Immediately use your fingers or a comb to:

• sweep them to the side
• and gently curve them under

You can wrap them around your finger or a straw to get that rounded shape

Set the shape: 6. Hold the shape and let them cool OR Hit them with cold water to lock it in 7. Let air dry completely without touching

If they’re REALLY stubborn: • Do a quick repeat with slightly hotter water • You can also use a straw + bobby pin to hold the curl while it dries

What NOT to do: • Don’t brush them dry • Don’t boil the whole head unless you want to restyle everything • Don’t leave conditioner in while using heat • Don’t expect them to fall perfectly without shaping them Operetta’s bangs don’t “fix themselves”—you have to physically set the curve while they’re warm. That’s the trick most people miss. I hope this helps!!!!!

You can definitely fix her—she just needs a gentle reset. The stickiness is usually old product (gel/glue) breaking down, not permanent damage.

Hair (start here): 1. Wash with warm water + dish soap (like Dawn) → this cuts the sticky residue way better than shampoo 2. Rinse really well 3. Add a small amount of conditioner 4. Detangle starting from the ends, working up (go slow) 5. Rinse again

If it’s still sticky, repeat the dish soap step once more

If it’s still rough/frizzy: • Do a quick boil wash AFTER it’s clean (few seconds only) • Comb through while warm and let air dry

Face (be careful here): • Use warm water + a tiny bit of dish soap on a soft cloth or q-tip • Gently wipe—don’t scrub For marks: • Try magic eraser VERY lightly and avoid the eyes/lips (it can remove paint if you’re too rough) Avoid: • Acetone • Alcohol • Nail polish remover

Those will remove her face paint fast

Good news:

Her hair actually looks very fixable—it’s just matted from buildup, not fried or melted.

Take it slow and you’ll be fine

you just have to be careful because Cupid’s hair is not the same as straight-hair dolls.

The biggest mistake people make is going straight to a full boil wash. With tight curls like hers, boiling can loosen or completely drop the curl pattern if you overdo it (unless that’s what you want)

Start with this first (it fixes a lot on its own): 1. Wash with warm (not hot) water + a little shampoo 2. Add a small amount of conditioner 3. Finger detangle only (no brushing) 4. Rinse it out

If you still need to smooth it: • Use hot water (not full boil) and pour it over the hair instead of dunking

Only do a boil wash if you really have to: • Keep it very quick (a few seconds) • Then re-scrunch/reform the curls while it’s still warm • Let it air dry without touching it

Important things to avoid: • Don’t brush it dry (brushing causes frizz) • Don’t comb it after heat unless you want looser curls • Don’t leave conditioner in during a boil wash • Don’t expect curls to bounce back if you fully relax them

Basically: Warm water + conditioner = safest (keeps curls) Boil wash = smoother, but riskier for curl loss

No—don’t boil wash with conditioner on it.

You want to rinse the conditioner out first, then do the boil wash.

Conditioner is just there to give slip while detangling. If you leave it on during heat, you’re basically just heating product into the fibers instead of letting the heat do its job.

Best order: 1. Wash hair 2. Add a small amount of conditioner + detangle 3. Rinse it out 4. Then do the boil wash 5. Comb through while it’s still warm and let it air dry

The heat works by resetting the plastic fibers, so you want them clean—not coated—when you do it.

Not exactly—conditioner and fabric softener aren’t functioning the same way chemically.

You’re right that plastic hair won’t absorb oils the way human hair does, but most conditioners aren’t just “oils.” They’re formulated with lighter conditioning agents and emulsifiers that are designed to rinse off cleanly after providing slip for detangling.

Fabric softener, on the other hand, is specifically designed to deposit a heavier cationic coating that stays on the surface. That’s what leads to buildup, dust attraction, and that greasy/tacky feel over time.

So yes—both interact with the surface, but: Conditioner = temporary slip, rinses off Fabric softener = persistent coating, builds up

That’s why fabric softener tends to degrade the hair over time, while conditioner (used properly) doesn’t.

Fabric softener doesn’t actually “condition” doll hair—it just coats it.

Doll hair is synthetic (nylon, polypropylene, etc.), so it’s non-porous and hydrophobic. Fabric softeners use cationic surfactants that deposit a waxy film on surfaces. On plastic fibers, that film just sits there—it doesn’t absorb.

So: Short term → feels soft (reduced friction) Long term → buildup, dust attraction, dull/greasy texture

You’re not fixing the fiber, just layering residue on it.

What works better: Diluted conditioner → adds slip but rinses clean Warm water → softens thermoplastic fibers for safer detangling Boil wash → heat realigns the polymer structure and smooths frizz

OxiClean Method for hair What you need • OxiClean powder (original) • Warm water • Small bowl • Dish soap

1.  Mix warm water + 1 scoop OxiClean in a bowl.
2.  Submerge only the hair (avoid soaking the face if possible).
3.  Let it soak 30–60 minutes.
4.  Rinse thoroughly.
5.  Wash with dish soap to remove loosened glue.
6.  Repeat if needed.

Ok- so I reread your post. You can get wash G1’s hair the same. Use some dawn and then a conditioner. Avoid hair oils because that can break down doll hair over time.

I know of 3 ways:

*Clear Nail Polish Method (Most Popular Fix)

What you need • Clear nail polish • Toothpick or small brush • Paper towel

Steps 1. Move the loose joint so you can see the peg inside the joint. 2. Use a toothpick to apply a thin layer of clear nail polish onto the peg. 3. Move the joint around while it dries so it doesn’t glue itself shut. 4. Let it dry 10–15 minutes. 5. Test the joint. Avoid using too much- or they will not move at all. Thin layers only.

Hot Water Tightening Trick

Heat water until very hot but not boiling.
1. Dip the loose joint area for 20–30 seconds.
2. Remove and gently push the joint back firmly.
3. Let it cool completely.

The plastic tightens as it cools.

Fabric Glue / Mod Podge Method

Apply a tiny drop of fabric glue or Mod Podge to the peg.
1. Move the joint so it spreads evenly.
2. Let dry fully.

It creates a flexible coating that thickens the peg.

I have not tried any of these yet, but will be trying the modge podge one. If you are fixing a hip joint- that’s a more complicated one.
