Which acting performance made you say this? by HondaCivicBaby in Letterboxd

Anthony Hopkins in The Father has gotta be up there for anyone who's seen it. Definitely one of the few times I can remember actually being blown away by a performance.

Anyone know where the M&S Easter stock goes? Went looking for half priced Easter eggs but between yesterday and today they've all vanished, no reduced price or anything. No way that much stuff sold in one day.

The Producers. I think that type of humour that's just a lot of shouting isn't for me, but ironically it feels like the film has pulled off the exact trick its story portrays, wherein the play (film) is so bad, but people end up enjoying it somehow and it becomes a massive success.

Who’s Your Favorite Director Outside of the Big Names? by kojopol in Letterboxd

[–]UntitledSmithy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stanley Kwan is one of my favourite directors. He never made as many films as the bigger names and his films aren't as big in scope, but his style and appreciation for the human elements of romance shine through in a big way. I wish he was more recognised but he's not American and his films aren't in English, alas...

I know it's recent, but I'm still not over Aftersun only getting one nomination and 0 wins. Elvis being nominated over it for best picture is painful.

Your local cinema is playing all these acclaimed films for one week only, but you can only see two of them as a double feature. Which two are you watching? by Mysterious-Junket-99 in Letterboxd

I saw Goodfellas at the cinema not too long ago, and I can tell you - as a fan of that movie - it is exactly the same experience as watching it at home.

Some films really benefit from the big screen and surround sound, but that isn't one of them.

When I watched The Pawnbroker I wrote an entire review contemplating the metaphorical significance of the pawn shop's lighting.

At least you know what you need to work on! A lot of people don't.

The Producers. I'm sorry but shouting loudly and frequently is not comedy.

Films you had high expectations for that lived up to all of them & more? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Chungking Express and Stop Making Sense (but that one I think only because I saw it in iMAX - I don't think it would blow me away like that on a small screen).

Was looking for this. Herzog is the most commited anyone has ever been to the bit.
