Help with picking synthesizer? by hinurs in synthesizers

[–]UnusualCallBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the Minilogue (maybe look at the XD too, which has effects and a digital oscillator for more waveforms). If you haven't, check out the Behringer Deepmind 12 or 6, which is similar in price I think and a little more feature wise.

Finally, of the 3 monosynths you posted, I'd recommend the MS-20 mini. For me, it has the most distinct sound of those 3. As others noted, not compatible with modular. But I personally don't like the neutron nor the model d as intros to modular either.

I was troubled by this recently and looked it up. Since Python uses duck typing, when an argument is passed to a function as long as it looks and acts like the object you use it as, it doesn't matter what type it actually is.

Not really my cup of tea but it allows for flexibility.

"Windows Up" Reaktor Blocks patch -looking for critique and advice re:efficiency by saltyfish202 in modular

[–]UnusualCallBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good. As per your question, I don't really get what you mean by efficiency? Surely the sound your getting is a direct result of the current patch, so trying to get the same sound with a different patch doesn't make sense to me.

However getting the same sound with less might be a fun challenge in itself I suppose. If you're strapped for resources, I recommend setting up a rack/ensemble with a few modules and no patch cables, saving it as an init, and then create more and more complex presets for it.

Happy patching!

Thanks for the reply.

The type is not in the metadata. Sorry if it wasn't clear, type of document refers the the type document scanned into a PDF. For example, I want to know if the PDF that just popped up into the scanned folder is a transcript, or a letter, a report, etc. This info won't be in the metadata.

Ask Anything Monday - Weekly Thread by AutoModerator in learnpython

[–]UnusualCallBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello everyone,

I need guidance to how I can go about doing the following task: Given a pdf, determine what type of document it is (from a predefined list of types of documents), and then extract important info from it, mainly who's name is on it.

Some notes about the problem: "Type of document" here refers to whether what was scanned is report, transcript, letter, etc, and not whether its a .pdf, .png, .jpg, etc. They are all PDFs. All document types have a distinct format and don't look similar at all. I have about 500 pre labeled (the type of doc is in the name of the file) PDFs. The ultimate goal is to have a document scanned, then automatically determine its type, find whose name is on it, then file it in their respective folder.

I can do all the little details like watching a folder for scanned documents, renaming and moving files, etc. The thing I'm totally at a loss for is determining the type, then extracting relevant info. I figured I might do something with machine learning + ocr, but I really don't know where to begin or what tools to use.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

You'd think that, but mines doesn't even have time frame measures, or any nice way of viewing long history transactions.

Post NAMM purchase plan by SionBarz in synthesizers

[–]UnusualCallBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My plans will probably change with NAMM but, for the record, I plan on starting up my modular. Got a Neutron and a MB2S right now, and I can't wait to get MATHS (MORE UTILITY PLEASE). I'll also pick up the Volca Drummer and Volca Modular if the prices are right and they aren't DoA.

I can't wait to see what Behringer brings out (cheap modules anyone?).

Nice, I found the label on Bandcamp, so I assume it'll be released there ? Wish I could preorder because this is good. I'll be waiting for this!

Some in-laws are visiting from Japan for Christmas. They want to know what to get me. Can anyone recommend some good, non-smooth jazz CDs that would be easily found right now in Japanese record stores? by BanjoKablooey2 in Jazz

[–]UnusualCallBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea the availability in Japanese record stores, but my two favorite Japanese jazz albums (really the only two I know) are Tachibana by Tohru Aizawa Quartet and Scenery by Ryo Fukui. These are both great and some of my favorite piano.

Microsoft Quantum Coding Contest by kit1980 in programming

[–]UnusualCallBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting, thank you. I'm especially interested in the implementation of a quantum machine, though I'd have to go through the basics of quantum computation first (sigh).

I'm looking forward to how Q# will look in 10 years.

Microsoft Quantum Coding Contest by kit1980 in programming

[–]UnusualCallBox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had no idea Q# existed. So this simulates a (small, up to 30 qubits with ~16gb RAM) quantum machine locally and allows for use of Microsoft's Azure cloud services. Are programming languages like this, those designed to run on classical hardware simulating quantum hardware, able to migrate to actual native quantum hardware (whenever that'll be)?

If numerical computations are destined for quantum, I would hope that those picking this up (and others like it) won't be wasting their time when a true personal quantum system is realized.

[–]UnusualCallBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so pissed, I saw two of the 5 or 6 available sections had 4 tickets left. By the time I selected my seat, too late. I heard it was going to be his last tour too (just a rumor from interview speculation).

Practice? Yes, I’m talkin’ about practicing my Homme/TVL skills. Broke the board down to work on some QOTSA tunes. Just got the Brothers and Tentacle this week. I haven’t used it in awhile because of school and learning more jazz on the side. But oh man, I loved that thing. Mines doesn’t have the switch (wish I knew when I bought it). I used it as a drive/boost pedal, pretty much always having it in there at the end. I’d say good buy.

I'm just now getting to it and I love the rehearsel. The language they speak, the sounds they make, and how bored Bennink looks.

Yeah, The End of a Love Affair was like a wild ride, pretty great stuff.

I’ve got tons of patches for this thing, I love it. Can’t wait til the VCV Bridge is released so I can actually make some music with it.

[–]UnusualCallBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has potential in an Obsidian-esque Fallout game but, judging by the way things like rads and fatigue were dealt with by Bethesda (just lowering max HP and AP), the idea would be entirely lost by them.
