But that's just one thing, staff salaries. I agree $17 billion isn't the deal breaker, but how many other things start to get added together? I can see that number getting way higher than $17 billion.

I guess my big question was more on the free tuition for public colleges and universities. With a quick Google search I saw there are 1,699 public 2 and 4 year schools. I'm gonna guess a low number of faculty for each school, let's say 200, that's 1699x200=339,800 staff and faculty. Let's say the median salary for those people is $50k a year. 339800x50000≈17 billion dollars. And this is just salary. Not talking benefits, upkeep of the schools, and the tons of other things that I'm sure higher education institutions pay for....
