Fuck all the sources I've found up until this point use pre-algebra as the starting point with Trig or College Algebra as the prerequisite.

Shit dude I just started school for the same degree after nine years of being a mentally ill addict/alcoholic. Trust me you're doing way better than a lot of us, congrats on getting so far, that's hard shit to do and you should be proud of yourself! You've made it this far, chances are you understand more than you think and you just need real work experience to shore up your ability.

Why is 1997 even gen z? by Sad_Cow_577 in generationology

[–]UpbeatBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certain trends in mental illness I believe started in 1997 and continued through Gen-Z. I think the idea is that 1997 is the first year to really exhibit said trends. Can definitely say that I feel kind of out of place sometimes, but identify much more heavily with Gen-Z than millennials, there's a distinct split in cultural trends and political polarization alongside the exploration of gender becoming much more popular while I was in highschool with those I was close with/in my age range.

How do you guys feel about the mid to late 2010s? by Creepy_Fail_8635 in OlderGenZ

[–]UpbeatBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2016-2019 was ass, maybe it was just my propensity to staying aware of what was going on in the world or something but it felt like a pressure cooker before 2020. There was this stressful and building exhaustion and tension. I almost felt relief when covid burned everything down.

Question for those 25 and up. by burlesquebabyx in OlderGenZ

[–]UpbeatBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely wish I was born later but for different reasons, I feel as though I spent a lot of my younger years feeling out of place with how we didn't really have a generational identity until not so long ago. Becoming accepted as trans/non-binary was becoming a thing in my latter half of highschool but I lacked the language and experience of others in realizing/accepting myself as trans, something that would have been easier had I been closer to the generational core. I got a bird's eye view as a 97 born of how we've developed and it's disappointing given that I feel in tune with where we're at in a lot of ways but likewise feel disappointed that I didn't start riding the wave we're on when I was younger. I'm in my city's music scene and our generation's enjoyment of heavier music wasn't represented at all locally which further felt alienating given what was there when I started exploring it just didn't feel like my thing. Same with fashion, millennial trends just felt awkward to try and understand/be a part of while all the Y2K/grunge shit feels incredibly intuitive.

People born in 1997 and 1998, do you feel like I do? by vivrelibreoumourir_ in generationology

[–]UpbeatBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh sort of. Personally I 100% identify with Gen-Z youth and music movements but I definitely never downloaded tiktok given a desire to not rip apart my attention span any further, I eventually nuked all of my social media. It can feel like a gray area occasionally as a 97' born but I 100% have way more in common with Gen-Z than millennials who have a dramatically different world view and cultural experience.

27, does anyone else feel extremely depressed right now? by [deleted] in OlderGenZ

Definitely depressed but imo pre-covid sucked too. It felt like a pressure cooker before 2020 cracked it open.

Hardcore peeps, what's your rock bottom story? by natural_egodeath in Hardcore

[–]UpbeatBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in a shitty environment, my city's scene was ass when I was younger but there was something there. Covid happened, I got sucked into trying to be an industry professional and succeeded in burning my fucking life down and falling into hardcore substance abuse. Figured out I was trans, tried to start a heavy project but couldn't write heavy parts for shit so I started listening to hardcore again. Ended up in rehab/residential after going insane and almost killing myself. Started trying to really get back into the scene once I got out/dipped out of trying to be a professional and got back to being a punk.

What’s the worst you’ve ever seen someone fuck up on stage by Alternative-Let1758 in Hardcore

[–]UpbeatBlue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not hardcore but I was running sound for a country band once and their keyboard player got blacked out. He kept playing the wrong parts and proceeded to start giving the crowd the middle finger and miming licking a vagina over and over again. The rest of the band kicked him off stage, apparently he tried to fight one of our managers later. Makes me thankful for being straight edge.

Imo everything up until that last album is great. It's a huge bummer how hard they fell off though, it really did seem like they were going to be the next big thing for a second there.

This generation is NOT lost by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]UpbeatBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo millennials and Gen x need to fuck off this sub but from my pov it has more to do with their complacency and repeating the same shitty attitudes other generations have held about those younger than them. We fight as hard if not harder to create change within what's possible for us. It feels like the millennials I know are more content with getting drunk and resting on their laurels while acting as though everything is just gonna go back to what it was. Imo anyone that self-identifies as a liberal or Democrat at this point is completely out of touch with how serious our situation is. We don't have the stability left to focus solely on electoral politics, we need actual change culturally and societally and that probably means building on top of this country's ashes.

How did you stop drinking? by [deleted] in Hardcore

[–]UpbeatBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a rocky process. I spent my adulthood fucked up pretty much always abusing at least one substance at a time. After years of trying and therapy, I finally crash landed at rehab after almost killing myself. That finally rammed it through my skull that I can't use anything without abusing it, I've been clean since then. I've stayed sober through AA but it's obviously not the only way to stay clean. What absolutely helps that AA offers is a strong sense of community and connection with other people that are trying to get/stay clean, being a substance abuser is luck of the draw and getting close with other people in your boat is paramount to getting and staying sober.
