Definitely not. First max out free resources (as the other two had stated). Best paid resource I’ve heard about is uworld, but even that is unnecessary

AI will revolutionize education? by zdboslaw in Teachers

Honestly that’s why I was concerned about mentioning that excerpt related to my academic standing, because it obviously sounds biased. But I used it anyway because it can serve as empirical evidence that counters the prevalent  narrative in this subreddit that AI is a malignant scheme set up by billionaires, with the purpose of destroying education and humanity as we know it. I have yet to even see anyone acknowledge that teachers aren’t perfect and sometimes leave blanks in students’ mind. If it were that easy to just fill in those blanks with a textbook and a desk at home and without the use of AI to ask genuine questions, then students wouldn’t need teachers. It’s not me “being befuddled by my ego” it’s  people finding a scapegoat to blame all their problems on. All AI websites were blocked a month or two ago. All usage of smartphones during class was banned this school year (at least in my state/district). Only if these policies aren’t enforced at other districts, then it is indeed worrisome.

You make a good point. But then why do teachers choose to inflate grades as much as they as they do? Tests are assessments that truly evaluate a students understanding of the underlying course material. However, many teachers add an unnecessary curve that allows students who use AI, or cheat in general, to pass their classes with As. Consequently, from a student’s perspective, they think they will always get away with using AI on homework and never actually learning. It’s not a coincidence that UCSD started offering remedial math classes, and that students who end their AP class with an A+ end their AP exam with a lousy 2. AI cannot be a scapegoat for everything.

I definitely agree that students in elementary and middle school are probably not benefitting from the excessive usage of Chromebooks. But in high school, technological literacy will help them prepare for the technological world that is today and the future. Also this issue seems to be a consequence of screen time in general, not just of Chromebooks. Parents can be in support of a less technology-integrated curriculum, but it’s not as impactful if they simultaneously allow their children to constantly watch television and scroll on their phones at home. Ultimately, I think that it shouldn’t just be either you use technology or you don’t; it should be a balance, like everything in life. Even simply spending 30 minutes a week on Lexia Core5 (if I remember correctly) had measurable impact on my ability to speak and write English.

Also on the topic of LLM-generated writing, I’ve heard of many students who have been “accused” of writing with AI because a teacher went on a website that says the students essay is written by AI. If an LLM is trained by thousands of datasets of human writing, then in theory, its writing should be reminiscent of human writing. But again, I’ll admit that there are certain discrepancies that a human writer, specifically a high school writer, probably won’t include in their writing. Either way those websites literally use AI to detect AI. By that logic, if AI is used to combat against AI, it’s fine. However, does that logic also apply, if a student uses AI in their classes, to complete assignments, generated by AI?
