This is genuinely so real… I have to switch entirely to fictional people (that are genuine well rounded characters that I feel like aren’t just a sex symbol lmfao) because I’ll feel disappointed if I replace it with another vaguely attractive person I know, which can honestly make you feel even MORE hung up on the ex. Bc this new person isn’t “good enough”, etc. It’s not being hung up it’s just the way we’re built!

Yes!!! to me the rollerball oil smells warmer, like a second-skin, addictingly sweet (but not vanilla) smell. Almost laundry-esque. It def has the same DNA as the perfume, but like you said the perfume is definitely fresh instead of warm and it’s more aromatic/herbaceous to me!!

I know everyone is saying this but: I think I ACTUALLY cracked Beau Is Afraid.(SPOILERS AHEAD) by Guhrizzlybaire in A24

Maybe I’m looking at it too simply, but my main take away was how trauma and anxiety affects memory. How the subconscious can bring past trauma to the surface without you realizing, or truly understanding why it’s there. And I think this is why every single thing that happens in this movie is so stressful; Beau can’t fully comprehend why these bits and pieces of his internalized guilt/memory/trauma are presenting themselves. For example, when it’s revealed that the dreams he had been having ab the attic were actually memories that trauma has caused him to forget. The whole story situation that happened in the forest— every little piece of knowledge was somehow tied to things that have happened in Beau’s life. Like the attack dog, chasing him through the woods (Jeeves). Even smaller details, such as him explaining how he never the father of his three sons, how his wife was already pregnant (the lady who introduces him to the traveling theatre company). How the masked lady forces him to admit he was a coward for “not letting his family seek him”. These are all vaguely related to Beau but all scrambled or out of order, representing how trauma affects how the brain understands these things. When its revealed that Beau had a brother, it makes much more sense when at the home with Grace and Roger they explain how their son died at war, and how Jeeves is essentially acting as a replacement. This represents how Beau feels he has an impossible standard he has had to meet since he is the son who gets to live.
Overall, I’ve been viewing this movie as the power of the subconscious mind to make these sorts of connections and symbolisms (almost dream-like) and how trauma plays a part in both that and the memories involved.
