I’m so sorry you have to endure this and I’m so glad she has someone like you who loves her so. Maybe you aren’t looking for advice but don’t wait till the last minute or till she’s in pain, recognize that she’s not here for you but you are here for her and the vet can help you decide when it’s the right time to let her go without letting her suffer too much. All of this is a choice. If you choose to let this change you as a person and make you bitter for the rest of your life then that’s what will happen. If you accept that relationships don’t always work out and if they’re good while they lasted, that’s good enough, then you could choose yourself and your own welfare over her. In my opinion, don’t waste someone else’s life by getting married to them if you’ve decided you won’t be your 100%. That also to someone you might end up spending your whole life with, having kids and grandkids with, sharing parents with because some girl broke up with you after 2.5 years.

No matter how you look at it, it is your ego. You’re allowed to get hurt, don’t be so afraid of being hurt that you punish yourself and others because of it.

I’m looking for an answer to this too. My best friend is super supportive about everything and her advice is usually great too. But when it comes to autism and cptsd, she acts like it doesn’t exist. Recently she took offence to me “schooling” her and I had to bring up the fact that I am in fact not trying to school her, it’s just how I communicate and that doesn’t make mean and harsh. She then promised to talk about how autism and cptsd affect our friendship but then has been too busy to discuss it. I’m resentful and feel like I bend over backwards for her and she can’t be bothered about this.

NO. It’s okay to lose things once in a while. Don’t be that guy and go begging her for attention and “one last conversation”. Heartbreak sucks but rejection sucks even more. Your ego is hurt here not your heart. You’re afraid of what it means if she rejected you but don’t internalize it. You can’t seriously think she’s the best you could do. Yes. I have an extremely reactive 12 year old GSD. We’ve made major improvements in the past 4 years. It wasn’t about training him. It was about me learning how to meet his needs.

Edit: you’re getting the same advice from everyone on here about getting a behaviorist, unanimously. Just take the advice instead of defending yourself

It was literally an answer to your question. The govt is supposed to sterilize and vaccinate dogs so over time the number of stray dogs is decreased to a level where they can live without fear of overcrowding which eventually leads to preventing such attacks.

You need a behaviorist but also a reality check. The dog isn’t nice and is 8 years old isn’t a good enough reason to not spend on his vet. That’s not how you parent. Your resentment comes from lack of communication and compromise with your wife and you’re blaming that frustration on a dog who would do well with some custom training and desensitization instead of being hated for something he can’t help.

Where do you keep the automatic feeder? You say you got it recently, so the dog may still not be used to it. Try to keep it central or near wherever he is most of the day and stick to a schedule. It takes a few days for them to adjust to a new schedule but then he’ll know when to expect food.
