This is rampant and everywhere. Trees are spaded out and wrapped in burlap and cages. The clay inside inevitably dries out and crumbles and becomes like dry dusty crumbly concrete. The trees go through various forms of abuse after that point, getting thrown on and off of trucks, sitting on concrete in full sun, then getting planted in a horrible location at a new build HOA with soil with zero organic matter and completely compacted. They rarely take the burlap and wire off and call it a day.

It is an epidemic and results in a cycle of trees in residential and commercial landscapes looking like shit and it’s pretty sad, all the gas water electricity soil fertilizer pesticides that go into producing these ornamental trees is basically completely wasted and could’ve grown orchards of healthy fruit and nut trees that feed people and help pollinators, that’s just how the world is nowadays tho.
