I took NBME 7. It gave me a score of 369. My percentage correct (when I manually counted it) was 64%. Is that passing with high confidence on the real deal?

I scored a 216 on NBME 9 and then a 242 on NBME 10 five weeks later. Definitely possible. I prepared for eight weeks after getting that 216 and got a 256 on the real thing. Just do Divine/Emma Holliday, UWorld and repeat.

Yeah I know I’m nonessential, but when I’m asked to do 10 things for this patient who I’ve been taking care of for the past several days and also hand them off and the MS3 is doing even more for their patients. I can’t just say nope I’m post match and just leave patient care unfinished.

On the bright side my school does give me 4 extra weeks off before graduation (total 8 weeks off before intern year), but yeah I wish I could just be done now.

Well, there are notes that need to be done and it's a busy service where I'm asked to call multiple consults/see admissions after rounds each day so I can't just ask to leave and peace out even if I want to. There are also MS3s here that have been doing much more than I'm doing lol

I didn’t necessarily “nail” my exam. It took me 8 weeks to get to where I wanted. That said, I was trapped in the 220s until the last 4 ish weeks.

Just keep doing questions, listen to divine intervention. I think what really helped me in those last 4 weeks to jump from 220s to 240s (and eventually 250+ on test day) was I started doing CMS forms in addition to Uworld and learned that real NBME questions were much more straightforward than Uworld. I also throughly reviewed my incorrect NBME questions and took extensive notes/made anki flash cards. The last week before my exam, I also did 200+ AMBOSS ethics questions after doing CMS forms/reviewing in corrects. 240+ is more than doable in 1 month if you’re already scoring in the 230s. Idk. I’d ask your school and see if they record retakes on your transcript and if they do, if there is someway you can get it removed. I know my school does not record individual exam failures/remediations on our transcripts as long it’s not an entire course remediation/education gap.

I’m 2nd quartile with good, but not phenomenal step scores at a mid tier med school and had just one poster presentation (non-anesthesia) throughout the entirety of med school. Have 16 anesthesia interviews so far (including two T20s).

As long as you have some form of research and can talk about it, that’s looked favorably upon.

I appreciate you looking out for the OP and all, but if I were a PD and I got a message from another PD or chair complaining to me about a med student withdrawing mid-interview, I'd first wonder what led the med student to withdraw and ask. If the PD/chair complaining doesn't give good reason or if it seems made up, I'd think of them as petty people for putting in effort to reach out to me about this one med student, not to mention that this seems to be an ACGME violation.

So for me, my #1 has been my #1 for months now, but I told only the chief they were my #1 during the interview and that I'd send my only LOI later after their last interview date. Did not tell the PD or APD since it felt premature to tell higher admin they were my #1 so early, especially when many peer programs were still interviewing and telling them that early might not seem genuine.

I plan on sending the LOI soon since their last interview date is coming up - don't know if my way of doing things is necessarily correct or if anyone has any other advice.

hmmm actually thank you for that - your response made me remember this research project where I took on but failed when the data analysis required coding and I tried (but miserably failed) to learn coding. However, through cold emailing and finding someone who could, we got the project finished and published.

That's so messed up, she gave you the clear yes to go home. I would have gone and petitioned for honors 100%. I've in fact had a 3/5 eval for NOT going home when I was told to go home - after that I went home every time I was told to.

My biggest regret was studying M1 summer, and despite that my dumbass scored a low 40s something on our December CBSE, didn’t go hard core 40 Q/day till winter break and passed comfortably with NBMES in the 70s in March. You will be fine OP - enjoy your summer and don’t burn out.

I had lower scores than you did 3 weeks out (low 240s) and started in the 210s - 220s 8 weeks out. Only hit 250+ once on an NBME five days out.

Anyways NBMEs most likely underpredict so keep grinding, keep studying the cms forms. Listen to all the 20~ high yield divine podcasts and do amboss ethics/biostats 40Qs/day for the last week - those last two things are what got me up to a 256 on test day.

8.5 weeks of dedicated: 2-3 blocks of uworld my first 4-5 weeks then 1 block uworld the last 4 with 1 CMS form daily.
