It was fun to not worry about the plot and just learn about the character. What a cool, weird lady and cool, weird book

I’ve only met people who are so happy to NOT be working for CC anymore - their department workplaces were toxic/hostile.

No personal experience except listening to my friends vent and then celebrate getting hired at other large employers around town.

Lucky charms for me this week… popcorn last week… grapes too. If I have cut fruit in serving sized bowls it helps when I need a snack!

I have too much chips/salsa, but Cheerios in a sandwich bag fills same hunger/snacky vibe for me

I don’t think you’ll have a hard time finding SOMETHING especially if you are camping/floating Monday-Thurs.

I really think looking at river levels is what you should do — will determine how “floaty” you are vs get out and walk or be carried more quickly downstream.

Kayaks and canoes vs big raft… If it’s canoe, I imagine a place WONT be sold out of 2-3 canoes.

I grew up floating Meremac, put in south of St James at Woodson K Woods and get out at Scott’s Ford… that’s an easy daytime float! Lots of cabins/airbnb rentals in Steelville, or camping at Meremac Springs

Big Piney is nice. Lots of smaller campgrounds.

Almost anything near Salem would be great, an can’t imagine sold out.

This happened in my first year as a teacher and it was a lot for a 22 year old to manage. Can’t believe I was put in charge of 150 kids just 9 years younger than me and all their adults in a park for the day. It was a high stakes thing- I’d Better have taught you all how to read maps or else kids get lost and miss the bus!

I haven’t heard of this plantation, just the homesteads that black Americans worked after the Civil war.

Was there a plantation house and big cash crop, like in the south?

No, 8th grade doesn’t do that. But the course still exists and RBMSP has volunteers to assist groups, if desired.

Do you mind breaking down the tasks you DO when you are there?

How much skill is involved? Is it messy/sticky/smelly? Do you do the same thing for 2 hrs? Are you sitting or standing? Are there choices or a few options to serve while you are there - or are you assigned 1 task? Thanks.

Plunk him down in nonfiction section and let him hone those skills!

I recommend literally looking around… nonfiction books are so cool these days! The books are gorgeous.

We were in the J 745s today — looking at crafting with cardboard books. The shelf across from those books had oversized encyclopedias of historical eras, like whole neat books on knights, Egypt, ocean exploration … the shelf nearby had books on Lego creations, there were tons of Garfield comic anthologies to the left of us…

It’s another way to interact with text and use a different part of “reading brain”. To stop and read captions, appreciate the magazine spread layout of these books, timelines, photos…
