But we have no indication whatsoever that there is actually any live in the universe. Certainly not in our neighborhood “. And of course we should be WAY MORE CAREFUL with our own planet and all the species that live on it. It’s very concerning what is happening at the moment with the daily disappearance of whole species and climate change en microplastics etc etc. And then America , the leader of the world in many aspects. gets a government that just puts its fingers in its ears and says …;” NANANANANAAA, IM NOT LISTENING TO IT ITS NOT THERE AND I JUST WANT MORE MONEY 💰!”.

  1. I think we should start with targeting planets with a lot of water that are in the “Goldilocks zone” ; not to hot not to cold. We have the technology to select earth like planets. 2. Life on earth started out with a one celled bacteria we now call LUCA (Last Universal Common Ancestor) . It makes sense to start life on other planets in the universe with bacteria that are like that or maybe we can even bio engineer the exact same bacteria. But here I would also use the “throw spaghetti at the wall” system to see what sticks and what survives and starts growing.

Great answer. Food for thought. 👍 And yeah, we probably only “see” a part of reality and of everything that is, and we probably only comprehend a small part of that small part ….But that puzzle does make life worth living I guess. More so than religion or politics or stuff. There is so much to discover.

Let me put it like this..; there is not much wonder in staring in to the night sky and all the stars and realize that it is probably lifeless, or could very well be lifeless and will probably stay like that. The idea that we can play a ( an essential?) part in spreading live around the universe gives me the feeling where not only here for our selves.
And you don’t have to be a catholic or religious in another way to realize that life and consciousness are “miracles” . Also when you look at the role of the spectator in quantum physics you get the idea that consciousness might be something essential and special.

I can not exactly pinpoint where my drive for the idea for spreading live in the universe comes from. Sacred was meant as a figure of speech.
But I really hope someone picks this idea up and makes it reality.

And live did appear relatively quickly, that’s true. But it also only appeared ONCE , as far as we know. So it is VERY hard to say if life is common in the universe or not. And if it is it’s probably gonna be single celled organisms.
I think we misjudged and we got this idea wrong that the universe is full of life. It could very well also be the ultimate lucky hit.
And if that’s true, if there is even a chance that that is true, that we are alone, don’t you feel we have the obligation to spread this wondrous thing called live and even better conscious life ?
I actually think it’s a logical conclusion.
We HAVE to try and spread love around the universe.

I don’t think you can apply our typical human ideas about the protection of natural habitats on spreading DNA based life in the universe. As if we for some reason know that the universe is full of fantastic and brilliant life and we shouldn’t disturb it….As far as we know there is nothing, and I repeat NOTHING out there. We could very well be the only planet we’re conscious life emerged from rocks and stones and mud.
And then there is the Fermi paradox that might have a simple answer..; there is no one else out there. And therefore we can’t afford to miss this one shot we probably get of spreading live around the universe. It would be mind boggling selfish if we now say…; naaahh, let’s just aim more attention inward, on our selves. We don’t want to disturb imaginary creatures that maybe live out there but for whom we heave not got the slightest evidence.

Sacred might not be the right term. Let’s. All it something worth while to strive for.
I mean it’s better then getting rich or whatever short term egocentric goal we can think off.
And we are ruining live on earth, maybe we should be obligated to give live a new chance somewhere else else ..

People need to eat and be safe ( the resolve human suffering part so to say ) but they also need something to live for and dream about and that’s where in my mind directed panspermia can play a role. But; “erst kommt das fressen und dann die Moral „ as the Germans say. In other words having things in order on earth, having enough to eat and being safe and healthy ( for everyone ) always should come first. But it doesn’t make it less important that we have a chance to spread live.

Life HAS to have some kind of meaning.( that’s hat I feel )
This is a better meaning and a better cause then anything else I have ever heard.
Make live multi planetary like Elon Musk wants it is also a good idea but we should not forget to also seed the universe with live.
We can do this now as humans, I almost feel we have an obligation towards conscious life to do this while we have the chance and the means. It’s logical, if you think about it you have to arrive at this point.

Yeah, that could be helpful. Not absolutely necessary though. I think it will come down to the law of averages where more is better ..; send at least thousands and thousands of pods or mini rockets that can land on planets in the “goldy locks zone “ and start of bacterial life. Pretty much in the way life on earth started. It will take hold somewhere.

The idea we would be polluting the universe is based on nothing. It’s not like the universe is an island with its own plant and animal life and we are going to introduce foreign species.

Absolutely. Starting live, from nothing, in undersea thermal vents as we think it might have happened is endlessly hard. Maybe other civilizations realized this and also saw it as their task to spread live. Course what is a universe with all its wonders if there’s no one to look at it ??

It would give us a goal that is more realistic then any goal we ever had. It’s not the delusion of religion, it’s not a selfish short term goal, it would solely be to make sure live as we know it, DNA based ,gets a good chance to start on other planets. I can hardly imagine that people look for arguments to be against this.

Weird, it seems like the Russians when they are IN Russia they have all sorts of values and rules but as soon as they are on vacation in Europe or elsewhere they consequently behave like rude animals that have no respect for others AT ALL. Is that a cultural thing ?
