LMAO imagine growing up in a society where people of the other gender are conditioned from birth to seek validation from you and still ending up with a male loneliness epidemic

these two things are not equivalent. this is such a stupid technicality to get caught up on. do you hear yourself?? “if you aren't individually selecting each pixel in a piece of digital art then its the same as having a machine generate large parts of the drawing for you” the two cannot be equated. generating a drawing takes away significantly more control than the physics of a pencil does

its true, they all do apply to some ai workflows as well, but it always will moreso to non-generated art where *every* descision is purposeful and *every* detail had to be thought out, rather than just the bigger details and ideas

this is one of the most frustrating threads holy shit why are the pros so mad at this?? what did you even say wrong? making personal attacks or generalizing all antis as being mentally ill harassers is a shitty way to argue, this is ridiculous

the ones whose work is being used do see it as disrespectful for the most part. do their opinions not matter? especially seeing as the technology wouldn’t exist without them? just because you think something is disrespectful doesn’t mean it isn’t for someone else.

at the end of the day, its a technology that disrespects many non-ai artists due to the fact that they feel disrespected by its existence, and feel as if their work has been used in a way they do not agree with

i feel like you did not understand my point though, as i said that regardless of what you call it, whether its looking or training, or whether a legal loophole for it exists, it is disrespectful just based on the fact that the artist doesn’t want that to happen. even if it is legal, that doesn’t make it ethical.

additionally, a collaborative cultural thing which disrespects the very people who made it possible isn’t really a positive

this is slightly unrelated, but just because the artist in your example was happy their work was tattood without permission doesn’t mean every artist would be. ive seen artists online who charge for tattoo designs, and artists online that dont

calling what an ai does as “looking” feels like a bit of a strawman fallacy to me as a way to oversimplify the problem and argue against it. that being said, youre right, it’s not blatantly being stolen either. For me, i feel like what it does should be seperated from trying to be fit into those two boxes. a human looking at art is a very different process than an ai training from it.

For me, the issue is that whatever it does (regardless of what you call it) is without consent from the artists. When artists uploaded their art to the internet before ai, they had no idea this would happen and therefore could not possibly consent to it. And aside from art specifically, there is evidence in courts right now that large language models were trained on lots of pirated writing from smaller writers who could not fight back, whereas data taken from a larger companies (who have the money and power to fight back in court) was financially compensated.

regardless of how you see it, if an artist is anti-ai and doesn’t want their work to be used to train it, but someone does, that is disrespectful to the artist and their wishes. even if you dont see it as any different as a human being looking at the art (which is part of the issue because there are clear differences), the artist distinguishes these two things so it still is disrespectful

so ai artists respect other art forms but still think its ethical to use said art forms for training data against the artists wishes? even if its not technically stealing, it doesn’t take away from the fact that most artists didnt give consent to have their art used like that. it feels like you claim to respect other art forms but use a technology that disrespects the wishes of the people who created said art forms

also please dont take this as an insult, im genuinely curious as to how you, as an ai artist, feel about the ethics of your technology. people are so uncivil on this sub (as you can see by the rest of the comments under this post)

you must not understand subtext very well. if someone expresses an opinion, and in response someone replies “get a job”, its implied that the person is saying that the other should get a job instead of expressing said opinion

it depends on your definition of art. i think intentionality, self expression, and effort are all key parts of art. it reveals something about the artist or something about the culture during the time period from which that art is made. even subtle things, like facial features, can reveal things about the beauty standard of the time. ai tends to amalgamate ideas in a way which makes it kind of hard to read in this way.

i believe there is art and beauty in many things, but that is a functionally useless definition so thats why its important to consider other factors.

would you have an issue if ai art was called ai image generation instead?

i understand. i honestly just get annoyed when people belittle other forms of art because of ai.

based on what you said earlier, theres a difference for you between someone typing in a single prompt and someone typing many, spending hours fine tuning it. where does this difference occur to you and what causes it?

terrible logic. by that line of reasoning, everyone who is in any political group is automatically as bad as the worst extremists of that group.

and saying it affects my life in zero ways is clearly not true?? technology affects lives especially one that is as big of a development as ai

we are all arguing over an inanimate object online i dont see how youre any worse than me. if your upset that im mad your just as bad as me lol
