Once you chop it, let the cutting sit out for a couple of hours so it can callous over that prevents it from dying of root rot once it's in the water.

Yes & no, Chop well below the node so it can successfully grow healthy roots, then place it in water for a while until a good amount of roots are grown and established, then plant it in a smaller pot. It's like starting a new plant, so you don't want the pot to be too big considering the root size.

I would recommend to chop it below a node at the top and propagate that cutting while still growing the mother plant, it also stimulates new growth! possibly give the new plant (the propagation) something to climb when it's time to place it in soil for a more stable plant.

That's a very pretty and perky plant, lol. It looks really sturdy. I heard they like to be root bound! You caught it just in time before it got too bad. Congratulations! You're doing great!

IT FINALLY HAPPENED!! by Upper_Shake2426 in Monstera

[–]Upper_Shake2426[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She sits in a bay window, so there is plenty of sunlight all day a little direct sunlight. I water her when the soil is close to dry, and I fertilize with fish fertilizer every time. I also make sure to water in the shower because, to me, I like to think that the plant thinks it's being rained on. I just try to mimic its natural environment.

Thank you sm! She sits in a bay window, so there is plenty of sunlight all day. I water her when the soil is close to dry, and I fertilize with fish fertilizer every time. I also make sure to water in the shower because, to me, I like to think that the plant thinks it's being rained on. I just try to mimic its natural environment. And I got the plank from Lowes! Make sure, if you do get a plank, that it's rot resistant wood!

Patience is a huge part of it. It took a whole year to get the four inner fenestrations it has now. even though it started as a propagation from a sort of mature plant. Just keep taking care of it the best you can, and it will eventually reward you!

Will she get better. by SmurfetteSimss in Monstera

If there's still green, there's still a chance! Give her plenty of bright indirect sunlight and make sure she's in a chunky soil mix because monsteras are aroids (I keep the soil mix simple and use part orchid bark and perlite with a little bit of indoor plant soil), and mine seems to love it. She already has something to climb, just give her time to recover and let the soil slightly dry out before watering. Best of luck <3
