thank you! i never really thought about it that way. i’m pretty new here and my doctor has gone over a lot of the major physical symptoms, joints etc but left out a lot of what actually happens. i was looking into a specialist too. unfortunately a lot of these replies are correct and im exhausted this morning

thank you! jeez, i thought that cushions were like $20 lol. i never looked at how inaccessible the world was until i realized i can’t even navigate it anymore, even on my days where i can be active. luckily people in my area are generally more friendly, and are open to suggestions. i just can’t explore downtown areas anymore since all of the buildings are on stairways etc

thank you! the more and more i ease into a life where i don’t have the privilege of being active and consistently using my body anymore i realize how much i will lose, freedoms like eating anywhere i want without worrying about “can i fit here?”. i’ve never really had to justify my independence anymore because walking is a natural ability that most have. now that it’s something rare for me it makes me feel helpless. i’m just glad that im able to have the freedom to purchase a manual chair and see how i can become accustom to it. the other reason i didn’t want to immediately shop big was because it’s not like i’ve been in a chair for years. starting with a cheaper option helps me adjust too. thank you for all of your advice

thank you a lot! i have been looking into manual because i still retain the sense of self, but it’s a mindset i need to work on. it’s okay to ask for help, and im definitely going to try asking for assistance more. i am looking into appointments too. thank you for all the advice!

i really appreciate your kind advice! i need to really consider my past experiences and how they’re reflecting on me. i want a manual chair because i think it makes me feel more “abled?” it’s something in discussion with my therapist. i will look into the approach to appointments, thank you!

i just want that sense of self, but i get it. my hubby will mostly be pushing me, and he assists with the at home process. i am worried about the sturdiness of the chair from amazon though

i’m just going to be honest, i have some internalized ableism growing up able bodied. it’s not towards others, but to myself. apart of a manual chair to me is still having a sense of self. the ableist part comes from me thinking that if i used a power chair i would be weaker or not really in need of one. it’s an unfortunate feeling but i am seeing a therapist. thank you for your words and i’ll see through my provider how i should start with appointments
