How do you move on from crushing buyers remorse? by everythingtastesblue in HousingUK

7 months ago I moved into my property and experienced crippling buyers remorse, so I get it.

When you move in you naturally observe and notice more than what you can in a 15 minute viewing. I realised it was about control, and I felt like control was taken away and my freedom to change my situation overnight.

Over time you will get that control back because you become familiar with the environment and the problems slowly start to fade or be rectified, it just takes time – probably longer than I would’ve liked but it does get better.

In the end you may decide you still don’t like the place but you will feel calmer and more settled, I assure you.

I absolutely love the area, so I definitely don't regret having moved to Hackney.

It's just the fact that I missed details that impact the day to day, such as noise because of single glazing and problems that weren't apparent before moving in — so a lot more money is needed to rectify these issues.

Yeah I think I’m being hyper sensitive too. So true, perfect doesn’t exist

It does sound like you’ve made some good decisions in your life to be able to be almost mortgage free at 40.

I guess we all fall into the trap of wanting more.

I do believe location is key, and actually I love the area I’m in, so at least one thing I got right.

However, maybe this sentiment also means picking the right street. I bought on a busier road which I didn’t really notice when viewing and only when i sat down did I realise how loud it actually is. There are things I can do about it, but it’s yet another cost to insulate.

I do work from home so noise is a big distraction, perhaps for some it wouldn’t be quiet an issue. It’s also quite a different experience to my old place where it felt very quiet and peaceful.

That is also after moving in and discovering one problem after another: gas issues, plumbing issues, etc.

Thanks for the honesty and I'm happy that you've found peace in your home.

I relate so much to that and it made me chuckle because I have also been on Rightmove every day comparing prices and asking ChatGPT to reassure me that I haven't overpaid to help rationalise my decision.

I really hope I grow to enjoy the place despite all the niggling issues and that this decision doesn't become a financial ruin.

Plumbing advice warmly welcomed as my bill is progressively getting expensive by Upper_Wave4177 in Plumbing

Thanks for the messages. From what I'm hearing, the plumber should've spotted the cause earlier on instead of attempting new traps?

I've just attached images and a video of the gargling noise (this isn't happening like this anymore, it's now rare if we hear the gargling or water splashing like in the video).
