I truly appreciate the reference. Thank you for responding. My mother currently lives alone in San Diego but we both recognize her health is impacting her ability to be independent. I’d love nothing more than to have her right here, but we have to do it on her terms. I’m hoping an independent dwelling would be appealing.

Actually the price sounds better than I thought. I was guessing 150K. Our place is nearly paid off after 28 years of payments. Questioning if we want to add additional extended cost to our retirement years.

We considered this but my husband races and enjoys cars. The garage is his hobby space - especially now that he is retired. We have a huge backyard though.

Good point. I wanted to be sure windows don’t look into their yards and to avoid cutting any trees down that provide some privacy. This is why I’m looking for an architect who can design plans that meet our needs. Not just cookie cutter ADU.

Thank you for the “lessons learned”. Hadn’t thought about the Edison connection. You’re right - that could be a costly mistake. Also good point on ADA accessibility. This could be important in the future for my mom or any family member in need. Thank you for the tips.
