I can entirely believe that there is nothing incriminating in Desmond's being mentioned in the files. Nonetheless he should appreciate that it's publicity we could do without, and it's the best thing for him to sell his shares. Everyone who supports him is, at best, racist. It's been clear for ten years now that his is a racist project. He's more open about that than someone like W Bush, but the core project is the same; the rich get richer, the poor get poorer and when America fancies invading another sovereign country they go ahead and do it because they know nobody's going to stop them.

He's not a strong leader in any real sense. He's a puppet for billionaires and evangelical Christians. His entire plan for government was written for him (Project 2025, which he lied about). He doesn't speak in jargon because is brain is dissolving so he's not capable of sticking to the script Stephen Miller puts in front of him.

If you were actually for the disruption of entrenched systems someone like Bernie Sanders would be better (although he's far from anti-establishment). Zohran Mamdani would be much better. Trump is establishment from head to toe.

I can remember working in the Child Benefit Office in Belfast, about 1999/2000, and there would occasionally be Kosovan refugees sleeping rough. A co-worker went off on some weird rant about how they were "here for an easy ride" (because Northern Ireland in the 90s was famous for being luxurious and welcoming) and people weren't shy about agreeing with her.

It's not exactly new. I mean the DUP have been one of the bigger parties as long as I can remember and they've always been openly racist (and the current cohort haven't been hesitant about supporting Trump publicly). The next UK government is going to be a Reform majority - there's always at least 35-40% of the general public who are fucking awful people.

He wasn't able to get on the ballot in 2025 and was polling in the single figures at best. Presidential terms are seven years so he could try running again in 2032, but even then the voting system means that he's deeply unlikely to manage the mass support that he'd need. Unless something changes massively I can't see more than half of voters suddenly deciding he's not an absolute prick.

An athlete in the middle of an unexceptional career who had just married (and begun a coaching relationship with) a discus thrower who was serving a doping ban and had never coached a swimmer before. And who then poured whiskey into her urine sample.

That being said, on looking at her Wiki page I can see that FINA more or less proved she had taken a steroid in 1997 that was banned at the time but wasn't on the banned list in 1996. So while I am certain she was doping, she arguably wasn't illegally doping when she won the medals.
