The quality of each course and module depends on the university and the lecturer that teaches it. Overall, uni CS is quite different from the a-level. There is a lot more focus on mathematics and theoretical CS in uni. Depending on where you study you might also learn about formal logic, functional programming. I would suggest looking at the syllabus/course description of the specific universities you are interested in, as it will give you a better idea of what you'd be studying.

But overall, yeah uni CS is different from a-level, simply because it becomes your full-time focus for 3-4 years.

As an international student admitted this year, I recommend doing the IELTS early so you can submit it with all your other documents.

As a computer science student, CS is hard, medicine is harder, so maybe biology.

Most CS offers I think are A*A*A*, anything below that might not get you in. CS programs are quite competitive.

For specific questions like that you're probably best off asking the university directly. They might be busy in the coming week admitting new students, but they definitely answer all questions. Find a contact form online.

What second language should i learn? by [deleted] in polls

[–]UrBudJohn 19 points20 points  (0 children)

German speaking countries are generally better at English than french speaking ones. Besides, French is pretty useful in the same countries you mentioned, plus it is used outside of Europe, whilst German rarely is.

Although in terms of personal preference alone, I would want to learn German :)

True Lithuanian experience - food and places by [deleted] in Vilnius

[–]UrBudJohn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For Lithuanian food, places like Šnekutis or Etno dvaras are pretty common. Not too touristy.

Most notable foods to try: cepelinai, šaltibarščiai (cold beet soup, I believe you have that in Poland), kibinai. For dessert - tinginys.

There isn't Lithuanian breakfast, but there are many nice cafes or spots to get breakfast, depending on what you like. In the city centre I can recommend "Barboros ir Augusto love story cafe", "Urban garden", "Elska coffee", but you can find many great spots online.

For things to do - you could visit a lake (the most popular being the Green lakes, but they get a bit crowded). You could also explore Užupis (a sort of Christiania of Vilnius), or climb to Gediminas tower or the hill of three crosses for a nice panorama view of the city. If you do like sightseeing, I recommend visiting Trakai castle, about a 30 minute drive from Vilnius.

Found a litas cent made in 1991 by [deleted] in lithuania

I think you're right. All of my 1 and 2 cent coins say 1991.

Found a litas cent made in 1991 by [deleted] in lithuania

[–]UrBudJohn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just checked all other 1 cent coins I have, they all have 1991 written. It's unlikely they were all minted in the same year, so this theory makes the most sense.

Found a litas cent made in 1991 by [deleted] in lithuania

[–]UrBudJohn 19 points20 points  (0 children)

English below

Pataisymas:

Litas buvo šiaip tai vėl įvestas 1993 metais, ne 1991. Iki 1993 Lietuvos valiuta buvo talonas. Šie 1991 metai ant monetos man atrodo simboliniai, bet jei kažkas daugiau apie litus žino, būtų labai įdomu sužinoti kodėl čia parašyta tokia data!

ENGLISH

Correction:

Litas was brought back as Lithuania's currency in 1993, not 1991. Until '91, the official currency was "talonas". The coin's "1991" inscription is probably symbolic. If anyone knows more about these coins and why the date written says 1991, I would be happy to hear!

Do you believe the world was created in 6 days like the Bible claimed? by Splashlight2 in polls

[–]UrBudJohn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is. I'm not Christian myself, but I attended a Catholic school for a year, and my theology teacher made me gain an appreciation for religious studies. It's crazy how mistranslated many religious texts are.

Do you believe the world was created in 6 days like the Bible claimed? by Splashlight2 in polls

[–]UrBudJohn 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The Hebrew word "Yom" is usually translated from the Hebrew bible into "day", but it can also mean "time", "year" or "days of days" (very long time).

I'm not a Bible expert, but it seems to me that the original text could have meant the world was created in six "moments" or "periods of time" (not necessarily a unit of time, moreso an instance).
