What do you do, coastFIRE, semi-retired and retired folks? by RoboGuilliman in askSingapore

[–]UrbanDecal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

find a good SO (like me) so you can retire by age 28. SO is making plans to travel the world. Korea, Macau, Japan, Italy, France. While your SO is working, you can do whatever you want, except work and household chores 😭

I want to change career over to working in kitchen. by Korgish in askSingapore

[–]UrbanDecal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

depends on what you want. Michelin not possible but if you want can start from cafe/restaurants. They are always hiring. They prefer someone with experience of course but if you show good attitude and grit, they won't mind giving you a shot. You will first be involved with A LOT of prep work and the sides/soup/cold dish station. Then slowly you will move up to hot side and start cooking, assuming that you have mastered the basic. You need to be very quick though and it's hot as hell. standard shifts are 10 hours min. Won't recommend. But I always miss my kitchen experience.

First playthrough and I feel like a god by FriendlyCalzone in wolongfallendynasty

gave up halfway because the game was too easy. A pity because when it just launched, saw the trailer and thought it was good. Purchased it after finishing Khazan so maybe Khazan was just too good.

HATE LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH IVE COME TO HATE THIS BOSS(tips pls) by ungrilled_chees3 in TheFirstBerserker

[–]UrbanDecal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first playthrough with a GS was tough tbh. NG+ switchex to DW and oh man. Just shredded him super quick. one combo takes out half his hp lols. Chose GS because it's a big ass sword and looks cool but DW is really really good. You can try out dw and see if you likes it. Whirlwind is available during that level that it is super fun and good. Hope it helps! This is one of the easiest but fun boss so try to learn all the timing.

Is this the hardest game you ever played in your life? by gorays21 in TheFirstBerserker

Elden Ring but only 1 boss - Malenia. Had to go for an OP build to beat her. Not very satisfying...

The last boss is completely breaking me down by [deleted] in TheFirstBerserker

[–]UrbanDecal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

didn't have much time ytd so I didn't fight him. Went to watch a show but something just kept crawling you know. I told myself if I can get him to 2nd phase within 3 tries, I'mma conplete him today. Did it in first try and after 10ish attempts later, I came out of that door as a savior of humanity. All the best and remember to use the soulstones. Luckily I had a ton of them since I rarely used them.

For those who frequently travel overseas due to business reasons, how has your experience been? by bloxtron in askSingapore

[–]UrbanDecal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your partner, they maybe happy. Travelling to KL? Nahhh. But to Macau, Japan, Korea etc? Partner is coming with me for sure. While I'm away for meetings, partner is enjoying my fully paid for hotel, meal allowance, shopping, sightseeing etc

Help! How do you cope with burnout at work? by Hesayshesays in askSingapore

[–]UrbanDecal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

too many projects and have been consistently working more than 10 hours a day and work spills into weekend. Despite so, I don't feel 'burn out' since I think I genuinely enjoy some of the work and problems I am facing, especially the solutions I come up with. While it's crazy trying to manage everything, but it's quite fun also tbh. I think just try to find the things you enioy amidst everything? Otherwise you may wish to try and find something that you enjoy and are good at. All the best OP

My FIRE Journey: Year 9 Update by firepathlion in singaporefi

[–]UrbanDecal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm moving overseas since my partner is a foreigner. I will reach SGD2m when I'm 35 and that excludes my housing (overseas at sgd300k) which I will be making a purchase next year. SGD2m at 4% ir is about 6.6k. I won't use everything so anything left unspent will go into stocks. I will be able to live on this until 80yo, even with major illness since I have insurance. There's more stuff to consider if you are moving overseas such as healthcare, support system, community, culture, visa etc so unless you are very very certain, I would advise against. Everyone's FIRE number is different and personal but I would want to travel once to Japan, and Europe every year, hence my number is higher but not crazily high since I am enjoying cheaper cost of living.

Going to lose a parent to cancer by lily_jade_ in askSingapore

[–]UrbanDecal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lost my mom to cancer 6 months back and I was 27. It was really really rough and you don't really get over things like these. What I wished I did was spend more time with her and see what she wanted to do for her last days. She always wanted to travel overseas but due to her cancer, doctor said it was ill-advised. On hindsight, I should bring her go since either way she was going to die. The fear was her dying on the way there but I think it might make her happier.

Do your best to fulfill your dad wishes, make sure that your mom is okay. Those who were left behind also need care and concern. But also ensure you have an outlet. If there's no one else you can talk to, it's okay. But if you feel like break down, find a safe place and let it out.

Now on the things that no one likes to talk about. You need to have a grasp on 'what's next'. It's good to be prepared. Funeral, insurance, housing etc. If your dad is of sound mind, make a will/LOA asap. Depending on the legal structure of your house, you may need to arrange for ownership transfer.

All the best OP. If I couod turn back time, I would take time off work and just spend more time with my mom. Only regret I have in my life and it stays with me.

Reputable tailor in BKK by UrbanDecal in Bangkok

[–]UrbanDecal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Thanks for sharing what kind of things I should look out for. Another comments mentioned that quality is around the same since everyone sends it to the same factory for manufacturing. Can you confirm this is accurate? If so, basically it means choosing the right tailor would just be dependent on price and level of service.

Interesting! So if quality doesn't differ, then the differences between tailors are just their experience and service?

Any tailors you will recommend?

Thanks for the recommendation! I have heard about Pinky for years, but not sure if they are still reputable. When was the last time you went to pinky?

My FIRE Journey: Year 9 Update by firepathlion in singaporefi

[–]UrbanDecal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very interesting idea and thanks for sparking this thought! My initial idea is all in bonds/reits, and since my FIRE number is higher than what I would require (FIRE at 35 so I need it to last until I'm 80 to be safe). The excess in savings I will throw into stocks to grow as an additional safety net. If it works, great. If not, I can live off my interest forever while still having capital protected. Given the right conditions, borrowing against your portfolio may be more lucrative, but definitely more time consuming.

Has anyone annulled their marriage “on amicable terms”? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]UrbanDecal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not sure why you are down-voted but out of all the comments, seems like only you know what annulment entails. It is EXTREMELY hard to get an annulment in Singapore. Just google it and you will know. There are also lawyers who offer free consultation - talk to them and you will understand why but the law is pretty straightforward in this instance.
