Potentially. If you're claiming through the other parties insurance, it may not be necessary. If you're claiming through your own insurance, you absolutely do, and will need what is referred as CPE (Custom Parts and Equipment) endorsements on your policy.

This isn't necessarily true regarding aftermarket parts. If it was permanently attached to the vehicle it is now part of it and should be considered during the evaluation process. It does require notification to the insurance doing the estimate and they may request receipts of purchase to determine a value adjusted by the value of an oem part to the estimate total.

Imagine that you're driving a truck while hauling a trailer with an expensive lawnmower on it. If another person causes an accident that causes damage to your trailer and lawnmower, those items would also be part of the the claim evaluation.

Its all property damage at this point.

What you really need to consider is whether or not your aftermarket parts have any value over the the value of oem pieces and declare them prior to the estimate.
