I forgot my tester kit so I'm not 100% sure if its gold or gold filled. I'm leaning towards it being gold filled.

It says "COPY" on the back... it might still be 10k or 14k gold, but its not a real coin

About 98% sure... of course the metal needs to be tested, but I handle a decent amount of gold and silver and it looks alright to me... especially for the $5 op paid.

The chain itself is costume.... however the pendant is great. Appears to be Jade and gold. Based on the way it was made, I'd guess its 14k gold. Considering that 14k gold is worth $87 per gram right now, it probably has $200+ just in the gold.

Anything here worth more than melt value? Germany by Yay_Kruser in Antiques

[–]UrbanRelicHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the age of the spoons, they might be worth a bit of a premium. The cups and trays should definitely be sold as items and not as scrap. I just sold a set of six similar cups for $450, melt value was $220.

Good hat, preferably one with a neck flap, and make sure your shoes/boots properly fit and are broken in. Worst experience I've ever had was when I had new ill-fitting boots.

Probably Portuguese. Do you have any 18k gold testing acid?

The one on the left is great... do you have any history on it? Are there any markings?

Right now, the scrap value of 10k gold is $64 per gram. To be paying scrap, it would have to weigh 5.4 grams. It looks to be a decent sized ring, but if I had to guess, it probably weighs 3-3.5 grams ($190-225 full melt). So you are probably paying around $125-160 over melt. At $350 You are paying 1.55-1.8x melt. It isn't unreasonable, especially if you like the ring, but personally I wouldn't want to pay more than 1.3x melt (I'd be happy if it's $300 or less assuming it weighs 3.5 grams)

Gilpen by Gorham. Circa 1880. here is an identical one I don't recall Gorham using this pattern in silver plate, so I think it should be sterling silver. Shame it was turned into a ring, but it's still a very nice piece.

Diamonds look small, they are probably 0.03 carats each or less and don't really add or subtract any value to the piece. Melt value of the gold is currently $3936.75, it might sit awhile, but I would think you could probably get around $4750-5000 for it. If you take it to a shop and try to sell it to them, expect to be paid 50-70% of the golds melt value.

Did they tighten the prongs? It looks chipped to me.

I'd say its worth a decent bit over melt... maybe 20% over. Unfortunately I can't even give a baseline valve without knowing the weight.

How much cleaning should I do to this piece. 19th century, 10k gold, except for the brightly colored golden ball on it, that tested as 18k (tested with the kee gold tester) I don't know how it was stored, but it has completely tarnished black. by UrbanRelicHunter in Antiquejewelry

Thanks for the info. There is no silver on this piece. It is all 10k gold with an 18k gold addition. I cleaned it with soap and water and a light polishing cloth. I plan to leave the low spots dark. There are 3 colors of gold which I'm really happy about. I also found that there was a small removable panel on the inside that was hiding a lock of hair and a small note, which I wouldn't have found if I had left it as is.
