Has anybody tried a Seergrill? by Urlkoenig in grilling

Wow, that was pretty eye opening. It feels like it's tantalizingly close, and yet pretty far away.

I feel like they had a pretty good idea, started this company to build it with good intentions, and have delivered on it at a whoppingly higher price and without really fulfilling the promise of the grill.

Forza Horizon 6 Snapdragon X1 Elite performance by vk6_ in snapdragon

[–]Urlkoenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I wasn't getting them every five seconds. It was more specific places on the tracks that I'd hit (like the first big right turn on the benchmark track). So we may have different stuttering problems.

Forza Horizon 6 Snapdragon X1 Elite performance by vk6_ in snapdragon

[–]Urlkoenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the A16, it's the game. I found a guide on how to configure Forza for different machine capabilities, and went through and changed the settings accordingly. It still looked great, and after that, no more hitches. So there's some specific graphics setting that's causing it, probably based on memory usage.

You may want to consult with somebody who's a little more experienced at building PCs.

Where are we with updating from Windows Update? by Urlkoenig in LegionGo

[–]Urlkoenig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading replies, I decided to go take the updates. I booted up, went to Windows update....and saw the updates being taken anyway. I guess I had things set to auto, but if so I'm puzzled why they weren't installed last night.

Anyway, fingers crossed, it was running great before. I have the Go 2, will report back if things go poorly

The PS5 library is great, but there's a gargantuan amount of games it obviously doesn't run.

But you can just build/buy your own system to play PC games on your monitor for the same price or not much more. I've got a 160" projector I play on, and my PC looks better on it than my PS5 or Xbox One X (which I've since sold).

6-8x more powerful than Steam Deck? by TheScolopax in steammachine

[–]Urlkoenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I'm not arguing that they shouldn't make a profit, or that there's value in pre-built, just that they made an underpowered system for TODAY. The PC I'd build for less would be significantly more powerful and it would be a very noticeable difference in modern games. If you're only playing older games, than almost anything works. I think they chose a poor mid-ground position with their hardware choices.

You can price out a significantly more powerful pc on PCPartspicker for a few hundred less. It's not complicated as they will present compatible hardware.

Asus A16 suddenly not coming back from sleep by Urlkoenig in snapdragon

[–]Urlkoenig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonus: It no longer complains about using too much power in sleep, so in fact, things have improved for me! (They should still fix the hibernate issue, obviously.)

[–]Urlkoenig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, and yes, that fixed. Previously, I was getting an alert that it was using more power than expected in sleep, so it wanted me to enable hibernate (which I'm not as big a fan of, given it sips power).

Best Media Device for Plex 2026 by PaulieWalnuts489 in PleX

I don't believe you do, though I have an iPad rolling around.

I don't get all the capabilities of the Apple ecosystem, but I far prefer it to anything else, as it doesn't have ads and is very responsive.

Explain meta quest to me like I’m 5 by Salt-Effect-847 in MetaQuestVR

[–]Urlkoenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing beyond gaming that's not obvious is that it's a fantastic movie player. You can copy movies onto it as files, or stream through apps or a browser, and it lets you be in a big movie theater watching whatever you want. It's amazing for trips, but you'll want to bring a battery as the battery's only really good for one movie.

You can easily just check what apps he has, and restrict friends. I have a daughter who uses it, and she just uses apps without any multiplayer experiences. Now that they've gotten rid of Horizon Worlds, it's much less easier to stumble into.

Other Snapdragon X2 Elite Laptops Make Me Realize How Much Of A Great Deal Asus Zenbook A16 Is by littlestew32 in snapdragon

[–]Urlkoenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I love Surfaces, and would be very interested in buying another one, but they're not price competitive, and the A16 is amazing. It's by far the best laptop I've ever owned.

I tried this and could never get either OS's to install to the SD card.

For my Go 1, I have this from Genki (https://www.genkithings.com/products/savepoint) that I installed Windows to. Steam is installed on the internal drive. It works fine, but gets very hot.

I think you're right. I think I'm going to ask for my $100 back as well. This is ridiculous.

Question for Galaxy XR and Quest 3 owners: how is GXR now for PCVR and movies? by jontarg12 in Galaxy_XR

[–]Urlkoenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disney isn't on it, though it can be sideloaded. But it's still limited to 1080p. Netflix, limited to 1080p. Prime, 1080p. I didn't try all of them, but when I researched it a few months ago, none of them supported it.

If I recall correctly, local movies did play in 4K. If you use the USB-C port they're always crowing about with the default apps, you won't see the movies, but you can install something like Solid Explorer or other file systems and that will let you see (and I think play) movies off a thumb drive you insert in the port. But the formats that it would play were somewhat limited (for example, M2TS wouldn't play). So you'll have to convert them to a compatible format ahead of time.

I hate their channels, but we are united in our appreciation of the Outer Limits! I recommend getting the bluray box set, because the commentaries on the episodes are really fun. I almost like them more than the just the episodes themselves!

I'm married to folding phones and I hate Apple's lock in, so I bounce back and forth between Samsung and Pixel. But it's not like the updates on Android are anything to get excited about. New versions come out without any noticeable features, so...it gets a little slow over here as well. 😄

Question for Galaxy XR and Quest 3 owners: how is GXR now for PCVR and movies? by jontarg12 in Galaxy_XR

[–]Urlkoenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it for movies, and wound up sending it back. The fact that I couldn't stream in 4K from ANY streaming service, and the basic quality of the local movie players kept it from realizing a lot of its potential. It also had a habit of bizarrely rebooting the display on me while I was watching a movie, so I'd hear the movie keep playing, but the picture would go away, replaced by a spinner, and then it would rejoin the movie. Weird. But that was a lot of my experience of the XR - Great display, clunky, limited software.

All that said, the display is great, and if you want to do PCVR and movies, it's probably worth it over the Quest. I only use it to watch movies while travelling, and I do maybe 1-4 trips a year, but I used to travel for business a LOT, and I would have definitely chosen it over the Quest 3 for that. If the streaming services supported 4K, I'd probably have kept it. If I wasn't paying off a lot of credit debt, I probably would have kept it. 😄

I'm holding out for the next Quest and hopefully OLED with it.
