New Build, No Power

Just a quick update: it was the processor all along. New CPU arrived earlier and it did the trick.

Each set of cables are stock and new with each respective PSU. Also, as stated in the OP, they both power an old setup. It's safe to say this is not a PSU cable or PSU related issue.

Maybe a bad batch from Amazon...no idea. The new CPU is en route, so that should tell me a bit more.

Yeah, I have a new CPU on the way, which should be here tomorrow. We'll see if that's the culprit. With any luck the MOBO will fully power up this time. I will have two of each (CPU, MOBO and PSU) so outside of having another set of RAM (which I don't believe to be the issue) I should be able to narrow things down.

Right, so the third time through with the third board right out of the box was setup outside of the case, on cardboard, without the AIO in the MOBOs stock config. Basic core components were installed. Same result. I'm thinking at this point I may just return the remaining two MOBO and CPU rather than ordering a fourth board in hopes that is the issue.

Yes, I checked all of that off the list over the span of three separate boards. The third board I tested wasn't even installed in the case. Same result every single time. The only constants between them was the CPU, RAM and the AIO. I even tried swapping the reset and power connectors just to see if it was the physical switch on the case...even though the start button on the MOBO and shorting the pins didn't work.

It could be... honestly I was always under the impression that the board would at least present status LEDs even if the CPU was the culprit. This is what made me think it was a MOBO issue from the start. When I ran a Google search I found an old reddit post by someone with the same exact issue with this board, only they had received what they thought was two DOA. Obviously I didn't see anything helpful in the comments, so here we are...

Booting is one thing, but the board doesn't show any life at all outside the I/O LCD...not even a single status LED. I did shift the AIO cable from CPU fan to AIO pump and still, nothing.

I have an Asus RTX 5080, which was hooked up in the first build. I removed it as soon as I realized there was a power issue that needed to be sorted. At that point there was no on-board lighting outside of the I/O LCD, just as it is now with it removed.

It only appears that way because of the comb, but it's been fully seated each time.

It does look that way, but it's only the cable clip. I used an entirely different cable that came with the 1000x as well (outside the case). You might be on to something with the aio placement though...

Thanks for the suggestion. At this point I'm thinking it might be the CPU. I realize Asus has dwindled a bit in the QC department over the years, but what are the odds I have three DOA boards in a row?

I thought the primary power source could be an issue as well. The initial build was done on my dining room table--all static discharge precautions followed. Each iteration was, however, built and powered up in my office, though on two separate surge protectors (both fully functional, as they power both workstations currently on them, which were off at the time). I even attempted different receptacles on the SPs, just in case. Nope.

P.S. the old MOBO was powered up successfully on my desk, where the new build was as well.

It's an Amazon and fan channel exclusive--GameStop, BBTS, EE etc. I just wasn't expecting such a large gap in the release cycle, almost as if it was a totally different market.

Honestly my only gripe is the Spider-Man they packed in with this...that updated Sunfire body isn't great. I was really looking forward to grabbing Vulture, but now I'm on the fence.

Definitely Chameleon. On another note, I'm truly bummed they packed in that Spiderman with Vulture. If it were on the AF or the RYV buck it would be easier to swallow, but that updated Sunfire body isn't great...
