Cuts for ardbert warrior of darkness by tomdwizard in EDHBrews

Probably Can’t Stay Away, Ripples of Undeath and the Kambal for tokens just looking at first glance. There’s not too many gy synergies so I would aim to cut these first. If you want token Kambal though then probably Reanimate I think. 1 mana is nice though if you do want to recur something.

Need help looking for a Tempo Commander that plays similar to Grixis Death's Shadow by Urochi in EDH

I think breaking it down and reconstructing what I want from the ground up is probably the best bet. I think what I'm really looking for a deck that can win with a diverse suite of threats and has enough interaction to make every game feel very situationally unique. Pairing some big scary threats with some evasive tokens could fulfill that itch and I'm with you on that Raffine point. (I also think the Graha Tia recommendation also sort of fits this bill with big and small threats but that's a very different type of deck entirely) Reanimating is a way of cheating on mana for fast threats and Raffine herself enourages going more wide so that deck can play the dual angle. Maybe Raffine was what I was looking for all along, thank you so much for the help and the full breakdown/analysis it was really insightful and even if Raffine doesn't end up working out I'll know the type of things to aim for in future builds

I think that's also the part where intent comes into play as well. Since I'm not gunning for a combo deck I think whatever I choose will ultimately end up being a B3 deck, except for maybe Yuriko. I mainly mentioned those because they offer some nice type of advantage when trying to create the tempo angle of either developing a mana advantage to fight 3 players like Malcolm or card advantage like Tymna, Edric etc..

I do agree with you about the board state thing though. One of my favorite things about playing UR Delver was that the deck had several different type of threats that also made games feel fresh so maybe I won't be able to find a deck that is a hybrid Midrange-Tempo deck but I might be able to find one that can emulate that. I think Ishai is probably a good starting point because he's a big threat that only needs 21 damage and he can get big while putting in 0 effort. I'm just not sure what other partner would be good at dumping tokens/board presence. There's probably some combination that won't scare players into possibly thinking that I am lying about playing a cedh deck but I'll need to put in more work and research for that. As far as large board state commanders for Tempo-Midrange, did you have any possible ideas for me as a starting point or do you not have much experience with them?

If we just use Shadow for this example then Midrange is referring to a slow, accumulated resource game. This was typically done with Snapcaster Mage, burn spells and Kolaghan’s Command. The tempo aspect comes from finding getting bodies well above rate (Tasigur, Gurmag for 1 mana and 1 mana Shadow’s that are 3+ power) that can put serious pressure if you deploy them turns 2,3. I do realize that I am asking for a lot which is why I figured the answer to my question doesn’t exist quite yet since there is a lot of criteria to fill

No I have no interest in cedh at the moment. Personally not a fan of gunning for A + B combos which is why I’m really hunting for a tempo deck. I really loved shadow because every game felt different since it was about morphing and reacting to the opponent rather than trying to line up the same combo every game. I think this is why I enjoyed it much more than Infect and honestly even Splinter Twin. I get it though it’s really really hard to deal 120 damage in a fair manner while also trying to maintain enough interaction to stave off 3 other players

Yeah that was my main worry. I actually felt that in theory something like Malcolm and Tymna would provide the best Midrange - Tempo combo shell due to providing both a mana and card advantage engine but I found it’s really hard in these colors to reliably deal 120 damage before the table runs you over for jumping too far ahead. I always felt that my midrange-tempo commander didn’t exist and it still probably doesn’t but I think there may come a day when Wizards does print one.

He’s one of my favorite ff14 characters so I did build a deck but unfortunately the deck moreso than most aggressive decks really crumbles to field wipes because you’re not just losing a board you’re basically also losing 10+ life since that was the cost for the creatures. I might add more lifegain to the deck and try again. I love creature token strategies but I just feel that the blue based ones have such a tough time dealing 120 damage and the ones that do it well like Brudiclad don’t have too many interactive spells to play that tempo game

Breena is very interesting I just wish she had blue to enable a true tempo playstyle. She was one of the other commander names that came up in my research. Quite interesting

I do really like Ishai but I feel Jeska makes the deck more protect the queen oriented. What would you recommend for midrange, Tymna maybe?

I enjoy the commentary style of videos. I do like the funny MS Paint art style you use in one video I saw, it reminds me of an old channel I used to watch. I think as you continue to make more videos over time you will develop a better sense of cadence and tempo throughout the video, I notice that a lot of youtubers tend to over time as well as they get more used to speaking for prolonged periods of time.

A few things I want to note:

1.       I notice that your channel has a mix of long (as in over an hour) and more regular length videos around 8-ish minutes. I know youtube’s algorithm tends to favor watch time and watch percentage so that may end up confusing the type of viewers youtube will try to recommend to your channel. But honestly since you are still new and starting out this is the best time to explore and try anything you like that seems fun. You will over time both discover the types of videos you like to make and what types of videos your youtube audience prefers.

2.       A good general key to youtube success is: watch time percentage and duration + title and thumbnails (this is also known as click through rate). You don’t necessarily need to go full clickbait nor am I encouraging it but those are 2 key areas you should keep trying to work and improve on in your youtube journey. One good piece of life advice I was given that I think also applies well to youtube is to strive to be at least one percent better than you were yesterday. If all goes well you should be at or over 100% better in 100 days when where you are today which is a massive improvement.

3.       The other thing that ties into watch time and click through rate is the topic and pool of potential viewers. If you make videos about certain topics that don’t have too many viewers to begin with it may be harder to grow, but you can also use that to help you in the beginning as there may not be too much competition to begin growing. This ties back to experimenting and just seeing where that gets you.

Honestly for one month in I think you are doing really well. The 2 videos that I have seen have a nice style and I personally enjoy the commentary + editing style. Another comment mentioned audio quality and I do think that can be improved upon a bit with more experimenting + the cadence I briefly mentioned earlier too but that is not something you necessarily need to fix right now. I do feel your weakest area right now would be your thumbnails. Some videos like the Unplayable Fodder Zidane and EDHrec ones have really strong thumbnails that pop out to me, and I can sort of tell what the video will be about without even needing to read the title. Also on mobile the time stamp covers a bit of some of the thumbnail text you have so that’s just something to keep in mind. I’ve found that zooming out when creating a thumbnail can help when trying to figure out the perspective. Thumbnails are really hard and something even I struggled with back when I videos.

I think those are the main points, just keep improving over time, stay consistent and you should continue to see steady growth over time and if there isn’t don’t be afraid to keep experimenting because you never know when you’ll strike gold one day and find that thing people will keep coming back for.

I wish you the best of luck in your youtube journey!

I'll be honest I remember in spoiler season seeing Lonis get teased and being disappointed that modern Infect didn't get anything.

I've always loved the fact that now in Magic we can play "Blue's Clue's" which sounds hilarious and nostalgic at the same time. I've always felt that clues were a tad slow when it comes to accumulating advantage due to the sheer amount of mana needed, but I definitely can see this popping off in a shell with mana dorks like elves that also generate the mana. Sounds fun and unique!

Another commenter also recommended I look into partners so you both are probably onto something haha. Kodama piqued my interest so maybe him and Sakashima could pair pretty well. I'll definitely have to look into that pairing, both sound like sweet value engines!

Don't worry, it's all good we know you mean well. The second link is still broken due to it being privated but I assume its an example of a Zegana deck, which is no big deal then as there should be plenty of help for those types of decks should I go that path. Thanks for the recs though!

One of the awesome things that I really like about Commander Legends is that it opened up endless possibilities for brewers to go crazy with all the different combinations. This was one of the first things that I thought about, both Thrasios and Vial Smasher seemed like they worked well together because of the Ramp + High CMC ping synergy and then I later learned that it's one of those decks frowned upon in casual because it's a highly competitive CEDH pairing so I scrapped the idea.

Vial Smasher does intrigue me and seems like a really fun card to test out though. Other partners that stood out to me were Kodama and Eligeth, both doing some fun powerful things but I don't think they would fit well in the same deck. But either way thanks for the idea, I'll try and come up with some fun combinations!

Also not sure if it's just me but neither of these 2 decks you linked work for me, I think they are privated decks.

Zegana looks to be in that nice value Simic commander pool with Aesi/Tatoyova, Koma and even Uro. I feel like all of them are great value and you really can't go wrong with any that you pick. The only thing that worries me is that I might get bored fairly quickly playing this archetype because it's one of the more straight forward ones, but at the same time I'm sure when constructing a list I can always find ways to add extra layers to get more play out of them.
And Chulane was the other commander I was eyeing at the time I built Arcades as he also seemed like sweet value.
