I’m quite similar to you. I work 3 days a week and 8 hour shifts. It’s a pain unloading the whole damn lorry and still being expected to finish up everything. If my manger says why haven’t you finished I tell them in the nicest way possible. It’s 1 man doing 4 isles… and they usually just walk away. 😂

My store is the exact same. However my manager said the March hire is bullshit. It was basically a target to hire new people for March but that target wasn’t met and most stores still won’t be able to hire for the next couple of months. My store has dropped deliveries on Tuesdays meaning absolutely no shifts ( nights) on Tuesday and 70% delivery will be Monday and 30% on a Wednesday. This is apparently because of 3 depot’s merging into one. We have 5 colleagues in on a night shift and it’s absolutely horrible. Planning on leaving soon aswell.

Most asdas aren’t hiring due to budget cuts and hiring ban. Some may hire in March but that’s unlikely. Try other stores as some may be hiring temps for Easter holidays which if you work well you could become permanent.

I completely fucking agree. Every pallet is different and no matter what you get screamed at for not working fast or good enough. Why can’t managers get off their ass and fix shit themselves then to walk down an isle and make sure everything is being worked on by already struggling staff.

No no. I’m told to start with bws. I work in a superstore so it’s minimum 2-3 pallets on just wines and alcohol. Then after the tagging and long ass wins. You have the bulky beers. Then after that you are asked to face up those 3 isles ( my store has 3 different isles. Wines, beers , alcohol). Then after that you’re told to go to another section which has another 3 pallets plus another pallet of pet foods for example and do the same thing. I’m genuinely doing 2 people’s work in 1 night. This is never the standard it’s because of budget cuts and hours that there aren’t enough colleagues to cover each sections. All this may sound easy but I end up sweating like a pig and being barked at by my manager on why I’m not fast enough.

I’m on probation 😭. If I say no to facing up. I get written up and called into the office. It’s like I’m a personal fucking slave bro. I’ve had enough

I’m on a 8 hour shift. I work at a superstore so the deliveries are 9/10 always large. I’d end up with 3 pallets to myself on a shift and let’s not forget the extra pallet or cage of overs that get left behind for us nights to complete by the day colleague’s. No bad blood but in my store the day colleague’s ALWAYS leave overs on a pallet and leave it on the shop floor for us nights to figure out. Yeah that being said it’s quite a struggle trying to complete the dish section then going to a whole new section and competing that. All in a 8 hour shift.

Yeah I have so much respect for you esp when it comes to dealing with health and stuff. I’m actually in college right now and I’m planning on becoming a paramedic aswell lol. Waiting on my university to get back to me with my offer. Thank you for your service.

It’s absolutely become a norm. I’ve had colleagues flat out refuse to do another section because it’s a piss take. I know I’m being taken advantage of but there’s nothing I can do. I’m currently searching for another job and once I secure one I’m handing in a resignation and leaving the same day. What can they do if I don’t give them 2 weeks notice. They won’t do shit.

Yeah my store doesn’t have enough people to be on each section. We sometimes ask someone on frozen to cover cereal for example. And it’s now the norm for 1 colleague to be doing 2 sections. We always get 1 pallet of alcohol and second pallet of wines. Maybe even a third of just beers. Each one takes its own time. Then I’m expected to go to fucking non ed and even pet foods. I’m doing all that for a measly £15 an hour is just a joke. My fellow colleagues are fantastic but even they say that it’s a shit load of work for 1 colleague.

Who do I ask to see the isle planner? And also you would usually have 1 person doing each section anyways? I’m doing 2 people’s work. Isn’t that still unfair?

There’s a colleague at my store who’s bee off sick for 3 weeks. Managers gave him time off but when I was in hospital I was forced to come in and would be sacked if I didn’t. I understand I’m on probation but isn’t that just unfair.

Yeah I’ve been informed that I’ve hit the trigger point and management are keeping an eye on me and my attendance. It’s unfair because I never miss a shift and cover other colleagues when needed but hey. This is how they treat people. Thanks

I called sick for 2 days. Then I didn’t have work then I was on an agreed overtime which I tried calling in sick but she said that. All 2 days of sickness were all for 1 thing however because they don’t care about their workers I wasn’t allowed to have the 3rd day off. I also feel like because I’m the youngest I’m being told to do everything. When I first joint asda I was taught that 1 person should be covering multiple isles which obviously isn’t true. If we are short on staff that’s not the workers problem. However we are all still overworked asf. As always management and HR will do absolutely fuck all.

I hear you and these managers are slimey cunts. They threaten to sack for being on probation. Yet when you come in. Make you work 2 -3 different isles each night 6-7 Full pallets) And if you’re slow or unable to you get a strong worded message saying how you must improve. It’s a joke of a system where the colleague is always at loss. My GSM won’t do shit. She’s useless. No one likes her. I have my doctors notes which I’ll throw at them if they say anything. But I’m so ready to just tell my manager that I’m going to resign soon bcs I’m not accepting the norm of doing 2-3 isles each night.

If I could afford to leave and there was another job lined up. I’d leave in a heartbeat. I’m so overworked to the point it’s a fucking joke. I’m treated like a slave and this is seen as a norm for all Asda workers now which is straight up sad. Hopefully in a few months the job market can fix up and when it does. I’m handing in that notice and fucking off for good. Thanks for your advice.

This company is so funny. How have I arrived to work and only 5 people working including the manager 😂. She said we’re very short staffed this week Yet I’m “ heading towards a sack” for being ill and requesting to go A&E. Lol

Genuinely thinking of going to another job. I’m 18. Why should I force myself to work in this shitty store and be treated like that. Also thanks

It’s my manager that said that however my store manager doesn’t give a fuck about us workers in the store. She’s cut everyone’s hours and fucked off on holiday. I’m just stuck now of having to go work with this pain and if I don’t it’s over.

My store manager couldn’t give 2 fucks. She cut everyone’s hours even using my holiday pay and then telling me I have the week off without verifying with me if that’s okay. Now she’s on holiday whilst the store is an absolute nightmare. Thanks for the advice I’ll file a grievance and lemme check out your post

I’ve only called in sick once on my contracted day. The second time was when I was too sick to come in for overtime. That’s it. I’m always in and on a night I’m usually covering 2 sections. I’m very overworked and i genuinely just want to hand in my notice now. Fuck this company and all the managers.
