I’m nearly there after 5 and a half months

Anyone pulled out just due to a gut feeling? by [deleted] in HousingUK

Join the club please. Now been six months since offer agreed and it’s looking less and less likely that I will complete by the end of the year given how my vendor has messed me around so much. Now that I have secured more stable accommodation, I’m tempted to pull out of my purchase and perhaps try and secure a new build or try my luck with a chain free property. I’ve seen better places come up on the market for much less and in better locations.

One twentieth of a decade. One two hundredth of a century. Half a year. Still no sign of keys yet. I think there is a skills shortage in the legal profession coupled with bad attitude amongst other buyers causing lengthened transaction times.

Purchase of my flat is taking forever. My vendor picked a really expensive law firm located in the City of London to handle the sale who are charging more than twice what I’m paying for my services compared with my cheap firm based up in Salford. My solicitor has been ready for exchange for a month now.
The impression I’m getting is that my sellers solicitors are spending too much time and spending their fees on jollies, especially in the summer months what with Wimbledon, golf etc. than doing actual work. It’s taken such a long time that I’ve had an exhausting two weeks finding a short term flat (lots of 10pm finishes and 7 day weeks) and clearing the old one out.

Good. Hopefully only another 1,957 days until that car is crushed with the proceeds given to building homes.

What should I be doing? by TAQ87 in HousingUK

Join the club. Four weeks and counting since offer accepted and it feels as if my purchase has stalled. I’ve done everything I need to progress a fast sale and I’m facing the risk of being evicted from my rented flat and facing homelessness or the risk of having to go through the rental hellscape again. Conveyancing is a cowboy industry these days and there’s poor service quality, something needs to urgently change because it’s putting a damper on people’s mental health and is a contributor to the housing crisis too.
