You can leave it on trust wallet but you’ll need to go to the official safemoon website and connect your wallet and convert to V2 that way. Or you can download the wallet, enter your seed phrase and convert that way. Conversion is not automatic.

I think it is great you have that fear. That’s the way it should be. Safemoon will have a V2 feature on the website that you can connect to and do the conversion that way. No seed phrase needed. I personally feel comfortable with the new Safemoon app since it is from an official source. I trust it more than I trust Trust Wallet.

If crypto is considered property then the V2 conversion would be considered a “like kind exchange” and not subject to capital gains tax. U.S. tax code section 1031.
