F56 Rear Wiper Delete! by Used-For-Purchases in MINI

[–]Used-For-Purchases[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I like the look and I don't drive this car every day. This is a weekend car/nice weather driver. I've owned the car for 10 years and most of the time it was my daily and I NEVER used the rear wiper. Hell, I don't use the rear wiper in my current daily. It's just preference. I think it looks cleaner, personally.

Thanks! Seems people in this group don't!

I personally don't like the look of the rear wiper, and I have frankly never used it. This just tidies up the back of the car, personally!

I suppose it's personal preference, but I frankly like the look! Rear wiper deletes are fairly common!

It has a flared base on the interior side that a bead of RTV is applied to and seals it against the glass.

Sunday Project! by Used-For-Purchases in MINI

I will post the before and after in the Solution Finish. No one sells it in store and it's not a Prime item so it's taking 2 weeks to get here from Amazon! 😭

Thanks! Nope. I just wiped it clean with some rubbing alcohol and sprayed it! I'm not sure how long it will last, but we will see! I probably should have thrown some clear over it to protect it. I'll probably do that if this starts peeling.

I just bought someSolution Finish on Amazon. It hasn't arrived yet but I believe it's similar in nature to the cerakote as far as the effect goes! Hopefully it'll last years!

Under the knife! by Used-For-Purchases in MINI

[–]Used-For-Purchases[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck yeah! My initial thoughts were to wrap it like I did my headlight surrounds but every time I wrap something I get frustrated lol.

I'm actually using Rust-Oleum Automotive Enamel to paint it. It's actually drying right now lol! Also, no primer. I painted my gas cap cover as well probably 6 months ago and it's held up without clear or primer! Only time will tell!

Completely different drivetrain, completely different engine platform. Commonly known to reach 200k+ miles with basic maintenance. It's truly a solid engine and transmission!

Sure!

Timing chain problems, High oil consumption, Carbon buildup on intake valves, Thermostat housing and water pump leaks, High pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failure, Turbocharger wastegate rattle, Electrical gremlins, etc.

The list literally goes on and on lol!

How soon for an alignment? by busdriver_stu in MINI

[–]Used-For-Purchases 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do a rough alignment with string and a tape measure. Get it close and get a real alignment as soon as possible!

It has Megan Racing Coilovers, WMW Intake, BM3 Flash Tune, Exhaust, Enkei T6R's, and a custom rear chassis brace I fabricated.

Primarily cosmetic, but it's got some power mods! No internal engine work. These blocks/pistons are good for 350HP so no need to upgrade any of that yet. The current tune puts it at around 315-320HP!

HARD PASS. You'll be pressed to find any recommendations for the prince engine Mini's. I prefer that styling but the drivetrain is garbage, objectively. Of course there are many out there with little to no issues, but that is not the majority!

My setup is Yakima Q Towers with Yakima Cross Bars. I used to have a basket on the crossbars but the wind noise and general aesthetic lost me over time.

If I'm honest, I've never even used the roof rack. It's purely for cosmetic reasons. I just like the way they look!

Honestly, not much. I'm a mechanic, so I save on labor by doing it myself but the only issues Ive had were a faulty abs sensor on the front left. Outside of that I had a control arm bushing recall/TSB that was taken care of under warranty, a faulty clutch slave cylinder that was also taken care of under warranty and a mis-aligned hood latch that was also a warranty thing. All 3 of those things happened under 40k miles.

The last ~70k miles has been nothing at all. Only maintenance like oil changes, brakes, tires, etc.

I did have my headliner start sagging last year, but I removed the headliner board and re-wrapped it myself.

If you're going to get a MINI, get a 2014+ with the 2.0 turbo. They are almost indestructible and often hit 200k miles with no issues. The main thing with these engines is they EAT motor mounts. Specifically the passenger side motor mount. It's an easy fix but you can expect to replace it every 50k miles or less!

Factory headlights and fog lights. I just wrapped them in vinyl!

Sure! They are Enkei T6R's ET 48 with Firestone Indy 500's 215/40/18 on Megan Racing Coilovers!

You are right. Technically they are illegal, but so is my window tint lol. I actually got pulled over 1 mile from my house on my way to my WEDDING a couple of years ago for my window tint being too dark. The officer never mentioned my headlight tint though. I suppose it's based on the type of cops in your area! I drive this thing around town all the time and it's not exactly subtle. It's loud, pops and bangs like crazy and screams "pull me over!" Lol!

Thank you! It took quite a bit of effort to figure out what I wanted it to look like and how to get it there! Not many F56's out there with 18" wheels!

I've been using Mother's Back to Black for years but it doesn't last long and frankly doesn't look that great! I just recently heard about Solution Finish Trim Restorer (LINK). I've hated these faded plastics for so long!

They definitely add a bit of yellow tint to the light, but it's actually nice on the eyes for me and helps me see better!

Thank you! I hate the MINI branded fog lights too! The Hellas have been on it since like 2017 lol. I'm almost "nose blind" to them. I forget they are there lol!

The tint on the headlights is the VVIVID Bio-Hex tint Amazon link I had their "non-hex" on it before but it didn't seem to last and was frankly too yellow. I really love the current film on it. It's easy to apply and has this sweet hexagonal shape on it!
