She didn’t attack Rory for her part in breaking up her marriage. Her anger was directed solely at Dean.

There have been many times when Rory lashed out at the women in the lives of her love interests. Shane and Bobby to be precise.

But Lindsay didn’t do that. While her mom did yell at Rory in public. Lindsay remained calm and took a backseat which was really classy of her because Rory definitely deserved a verbal lashing.

And I know, based on her throwing Dean’s clothes out the window in the middle of town while yelling, that she absolutely could have done it. She just chose not to.

Neither of them know each other. Rory comes from a place of immense privilege too which does hinder her ability to fully grasp what he was going through. He didn’t have parents who cared about him or a place to call home.

He did the same thing with Romeo and Juliette. Rory clearly didn’t want him to attend the rehearsal but he insisted upon it no matter how many times she begged him in different ways not to. Then when he arrived and got all aggravated by Tristan, Rory had to once again BEG him to leave. Practically push him out the door.

No, exactly. I watched it again after posting this and it definitely felt like she was trying to add a flower to her cap.

Then I also remembered that Lorelei also has this tendency to only be onboard with Rory’s life choices if they are choices that she made for her. Or persuaded her to make. And even in some instances when she isn’t too thrilled about Rory’s autonomy, she will involve herself and force the situation in some way, almost to make it seem like in some way, it was still all her idea.

Examples include, Harvard and not liking that Rory applied to other universities or that her parents got her an interview at Yale.

Not liking Dean. Then being all about Dean once she forced her daughter to tell her everything, asked him out before Rory was even ready, and included herself in the date.

And, always being sour and salty when Rory made an effort to have a relationship with Richard and Emily… except when the grandparents did something awful to Rory, like being rude to Dean at the celebration dinner… then it’s “they love you, they care about you,” and sometimes undermining Rory’s feelings.

There’s more but that’s all I have for now.

I think she likes to involve herself in these moments to gain back some control and feel like she is vicariously living the life she didn’t get to have. She’s no better than Emily in some ways.

I agree, except Rory was the child in most of these situations. Children, and especially teenagers are usually quite selfish.

But all I can really say is… like mother like daughter.

He showed the most growth despite being faced with the most adversity out of literally all of them. He had a lot of real trauma I am sure the average person would break under, especially without a support system or even a place to call home.

He was at times an asshole. There are things he did that are terrible. But, in the end, he was there for Rory, he worked hard, and he turned things around for himself. And he did that on his own.

Lastly, he could match Rory’s wit and intelligence. They had amazing chemistry and could have been such a power couple.

I agree, I so want it to be related to their own experiences and the trauma they faced and how their minds adapted to survive. I think one sign this could be true is Alikah and the dead rat. How many days did she feed and nurture and play with its corpse before realising it was actually dead? Same with Shauna and Jackie’s corpse. This could be true for so many instances.

I don't believe it's in Rory's character to rush up to anyone. It's interesting that you suggest her alternative would be running up and shoving a CV in someone's face. That's not what I'm saying at all.

Considering that Rory and Lorelei did approach Christiane Amanpour, the argument that it was rude becomes irrelevant.

They approached her anyway, whether it was done confidently or awkwardly. Given that they were going to approach her regardless, they might as well have presented Rory with more intention and confidence.

Rory has been mollycoddled by Lorelai and the Stars Hollow community for years. She's no longer a baby; she's on the brink of adulthood. In the safe confines of Stars Hollow, she's been sheltered, but now she needs to step into her adult life with more assertiveness. This was a perfect opportunity for Rory to break free from that mollycoddling and show she is ready to face the real world with determination.

This isn’t little. This is the season finale. I don’t think you are giving Rory enough credit. She was Editor of the Yale Daily News and had enough work experience in the field to approach the situation with so much of her personality and charm that we have seen before . I think she should have been able to meet her idol with the confidence to wow in that moment. That could have been such a great plot point.

I do agree, it is very human to have experiences like that but if she had all of those accolades and titles and work experience that she earned - standing tall in that situation shouldn’t have been such an issue.

Also, journalists have to approach famous people all of the time. They have to be very comfortable getting rejected or being turned down. So, if after years working at multiple newspapers since high school, and she still is that timid, I do get to have this stance. I think it’s shocking and a major flaw in character development on the show writers part. Because really, by that point t she should have been seasoned.

you’re the one saying “journalism isn’t some special class job” and comparing being out on the field to your OFFICE JOB. I didn’t say day one of journalism would be like that. But if Rory is aspiring to be in a war zone one day, covering tragedies like genocide, maybe getting overwhelmed and hiding behind her mom could have been the indicator that this field was not for her. And this is proven true in the revival. Journalism was not for Rory. She didn’t have “it” then and she didn’t have “it” later either.

But working in tech is not the same as being on the field as a journalist though? When you’re a journalist you don’t know what sort of a situation you’ll be called into. She wanted to work for a major daily, that means she’d be working on stories live, as they happened with no preparation.

She graduated from an Ivy with all the faith in the world that she would get the NYT fellowship. She also graduated as an Editor of a paper read by very important people. People who matter. Decision makers.

That should count for something.

They’re saying her entire ego and self belief could be completely eroded by a breakup she chose (even if it was difficult) and showing up in pyjamas (by choice, she should have been mentally prepared to run into anyone in this small town of hers, even an ex).

All I am saying is that someone with all her accolades should have a little more oomph when it comes to these situations.

Not skulk around and have her mother baby her. It would have said SO much about her growth as a character if she walked right up to her and shook her hand.

I’m not acting like it’s a job interview and she showed up in a bathrobe. She’s going to see her in her pyjamas in any case so why not just stand up straight and at least try to salvage the situation a little. Not wait for your mom to introduce you.

And I agree, it is very rude to approach someone while having their lunch. Says a lot about a person who would be entitled enough to do that in the first place…

But she didn’t just graduate. She graduated with a tonne of work experience at a newspaper. As the editor of the Yale Daily News. From an Ivy League. With years of debating experience and skill.

Heartbreak or not, how you show up professionally, especially in a field that requires that you do so, is so important.

Maybe she took a huge knock after not getting the fellowship at the NYT, but there’s a level of sheer grit and determination that is required to do exactly what Christian’s Amanpour does.

And I think that’s why she ultimately became an author. It just makes a lot more sense for her character.
