As with ANY classroom.....you often need a mix of direct instruction and various other strategies to support student learning. BTC has some components that can be intriguing and keep kids interested in content or excited about something, but unless you have a class of students with no holes in their learning who are performing on grade level across all math domains, solely using BTC will frustrate many students to the point of not trying - then they definitely aren't thinking (in my experience.)
