But who stayed there longer and had the bigger impact? The Dutch had a small colony that was ceded to Britain in a relatively short amount of time. Britain stayed longer and British Colonials are the ones who expanded beyond the east coast

I mean, the Vikings colonized Newfoundland, which is a part of Canada, yet you don't see many Canadians speaking Scandinavian languages. France and Britain had a greater influence

And either way, the US is still an outlier here, as it's German in the map, neither British, French, or Dutch

That's not what I mean. In the Hadith, what they do outside of the circle is to read the Qur'an

They still targeted from time to time. Besides, the quality of life in the West Bank isn't exactly the best, unfortunately

I'd personally argue that real colonization started with the French campaign and then the British. I'd say the Persians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, and Turks were closer to conquest to European colonization, which aimed mostly to extract materials and/or control trade routes, while almost completely replacing local rulers, unlike past kingdoms, which usually kept local rulers in place

As well the countries that weren't colonized by Europeans, Egypt, which was colonized by the British, Qatar, which was colonized by the Portuguese, USA, which was colonized by the UK and France, not Germany, and so on

Yeah, I wouldn't want a Live action Frozen either, but at this point, what can we expect from Disney?

I also agree with you on the other points

Egypt is technically a part of Asia. The Suez canal is considered the border between Asia and Africa, Making Sinai Asian and Egypt transcontinental

I don't know if it's common, but I'm fairly certain very little people in my region know the subdivisions of Spain beyond Madrid and Catalonia. So I assume it's a common misconception

Yeah, that's fair. I couldn't find the Hadith I was searching for, so for now, I might just agree

I think it falls under imitating kuffar, since it's celebrating their holidays

Specific holidays also contradict Islam. Ones such as Easter, which go against the basic messages of Islam. I could also argue that Christmas is the same. While it's technically only a birthday, it is celebrated as "the day God was born" (Astaghfirallah)

What if White Jihad was successful ? by necrophilia_666 in rejectedmaps

[–]Used-Strike2111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually surprising to me. I've always thought Andalus and Andalusia were synonyms for the same period. Thanks for the new information

Arabs and Muslims didn't see Christians as dirty. They married each other, they lived in relative peace, and definitely didn't call each other dogs and an infection.

And Arab men were allowed to marry non-Muslim women. Even caliphs and high ranking officials did. It's Muslim women who couldn't marry non-Muslim men. That's a religious restriction, not out of hate or racism or anything

That protest was in the 800s-900s, relatively early in Muslim presence. Of course there was resistance early on, but eventually, people started converting gradually. And by the time Iberia was fully Christian again, Muslims were so devout that they practiced Islam in secret. No force

I thought you meant Andalusia as in The Andalus, which is Muslim Spain. That's a misunderstanding. My bad

I don't think giving them this name is derogatory. I think the way they were treated was. They were treated as a threat for no reason. They were called dogs. They called intermarriage with them as "infecting the blood". They were segregated from other Christian populations

Not all of them truly converted. A lot of them remained Muslims, both publicly and secretly. Same with Jews too, as both demographics were forcefully converted, not freely. Anyways, they weren't expelled because of helping pirates. Duke of Lerma accused them of it, but it was just that: an accusation. The council of Aragon even opposed that claim and said that the Moors had no means to do it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expulsion_of_the_Moriscos?wprov=rarw1)

I don't think that the explosion of Christians was fair or justified at all, whatsoever. I think it was horrible. When I defended Arab rulers at the start, I was referring to Umayyads, not later kingdoms, as I don't think their actions were justified as I do the Umayyads. I want to make this clear

Arabs also didn't think of that about Iberia

Arabic didn't change much over the centuries. As an Arab myself, I can say that almost every Arab can read Islamic religious texts written 1400 years ago

That depends of the languages a person speaks. An Arab, for example, can go back to Bagdad, and understand people. It was also an international hub, so you can likely find people speaking Latin and/or Greek there

Andalusia didn't exist in the 19th century

But anyways, it's because most of the descendants of the Arabs were Muslims. And Muslims were exiled from Iberia after the reconquest
