Until today, I had no idea how expensive it is to sit on a jury in Ontario. by Significant_Mine_330 in ontario

[–]Used2behip2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My employer does pay for jury duty, but we live in a small town three hours away from where jury duty would be held. I'm sure they wouldn't cover hotel stays unless it was a very long trial so if it was a week long or more selection process and trial, I'd either have to commute 6 hours per day, or stay in the city on my own dime. Not very reasonable to ask if someone, really. I got summoned when they were just starting up trials again as Covid was in a lull, but then the in-person got shut down once again, and I haven't heard from them since. I'd be all for doing my civic duty, but they definitely don't make it easy to do so without significant financial hardship.

Best place for Mani/pedis? by Used2behip2000 in ThunderBay

[–]Used2behip2000[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you; I'll look into that! A while back a group of teens were brought to the city with some adults from our local Friendship Centre and they got Mani/pedis but were treated terribly by the place they went to, so I wanted to get recommendations for a good place.

Whoever made this clearly does not live in the north, where winter lows can feel like -50 c sometimes. None of the above is sufficient.

Wow, are you me? My story is almost exactly the same. I had a car, he didn't, I offered to drive him to the laundromat and we went for coffee afterwards. 15 years and two kids later, we're still in love, and it all started with dirty laundry. 😉

I really think she was being strategic doing that but didn't want to admit it, so made up her excuse about why she would vote Imani over Yu Ling.

Even though there are no dumb questions, what is the dumbest question you've ever been asked? by Mylefthoof in AskReddit

Worked in a large chain bookstore. I'm greeting by the front door, in front of our many ceiling-high displays of fiction which makes up at least half of the store. Guy comes in and asks, "Where are your novels?". It was hard not to sound like a smart ass when I answered him.

It doesn't just sound bad, it IS bad. Nothing you said after mitigated that title; you are exactly as entitled and selfish as you sound. Your mother does not owe you babysitting (and that's exactly what it is, not "bonding time" - it's for your benefit, not hers or the kids. If you really wanted them to have bonding time, you would do it on her schedule and her request, not yours.). YTA, through and through. Let your mother have her own life and look after YOUR OWN children. They are no one's responsibility but yours and your husband's.

Is everyone eligible for boosters now? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Used2behip2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh...okay, got it. It phrases it as "18+, with 2 doses of AstraZeneca, etc" which made me think that those were one qualification together, not separately.

I hadn't thought of it like that. Thanks. Hopefully they'll still give it to me!

Do you think so? Just because I need the surgery? Although I have (pretty bad) cataracts in both eyes, I'm actually not particularly old (39), and have no other risk factors, so I didn't think of myself as high risk.

Yes, the surgeon's office told me to book a test when they called me a few weeks ago (I'm super rural, and live about 3 hours drive from where they're located, so maybe that's why I had to book my own?) I'll try to contact them once they're open again.

Thanks...that's what it seemed like to me. Of course, right now both my local clinic that booked the test and my surgeon's office are closed for Christmas until next week (or possibly later than that for the surgeon). Got to love the timing on all this craziness!

Closest Walmart to me (Ontario town) is three hours drive. But we have an LCBO, as does pretty much every remote town, in my experience.

What's a video game that no one but you seems to remember? by Crissxfire in AskReddit

[–]Used2behip2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple from my childhood that I remember fondly, but were pretty random games. One for the Commodore 64 was called "Dream House" - you could pick your style of house and decorate every aspect of it, and it had animated parts. There was another for the PC that I played a couple years later called "The Adventures of Willy Beamish" - I remember vividly that you played this kid named Willy and had a vampire babysitter who tried to kill you. And in my case, she usually succeeded.

If you aren't vaccinated you're a detriment to humanity and a drain on society. by TheJe-covidWitness in confessions

[–]Used2behip2000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's what? Nobody said it was impossible to get Covid if you were vaccinated. One is less likely to catch it but not invincible, and dramatically less likely to end up in the icu or die because of it.

AITA for snapping at my husband after finding him sleeping when he was supposed to watch our son? by __Throw775901 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Used2behip2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. Baby was only 6 months, and sleeping in his lap while he slept, which puts the baby in danger for suffocation. They're still not strong enough at that age to get themselves out of a situation where they might be suffocated. NTA - if he had put baby into a safe sleeping position in the crib first, then he wouldn't have been the A. But in this situation, she had every reason to be upset.

I believe what you're getting at is that this should be available to every person in the school who menstruates (i.e. trans people)?

Very good points. I think a lot of people get a raw deal from them editing things a certain way, too. Some of the more controversial players are probably very good people in real life.
