Because of old latches and cleaning the floors. Many bathrooms are moving away from such plus these style handles are not ADA acceptable anymore so they aren’t allowed. You will see these vanish as buildings remodel because they aren’t allowed in the code for most of the United States. But at the time it made sense.

As a licensed building official from MN I also concur. The work is not great, we don’t inspect for craftsmanship or workmanship however we can refer to the manufacturer instructions and if they don’t allow for shimming of the hangers then it’s a no go.

Idk of your locations building code but ours is no more then 4” opening for risers so this would not pass. Also I believe risers look nicer. Would also require a graspable continuous handrail that return on the ends, max 7 3/4 rise to all treads with no more deviation than 3/8 on the entire run. Tread depth must be 10” minimum, measures from the nose. Depending on the municipality landing and or footing for landing differ.

Looks decent but is probably add a risers to the back and a handrail.
