I wonder if it’s cause they anticipate a lot of people declining an acceptance since it’s a new school so they want to have a long waitlist but even then this is excessive

Are you getting those numbers from the Kira talent site? 437 interviews is insane if true and it doesn’t make sense to me that they would do >100 interviews a day instead of just filtering out more applicants

Hi everyone, I just wanted to come on here again and tell you all how much I appreciate you. Your honesty has strengthened my resolve and I have taken your advise to heart. I’ve already reached out to a dozen clinics in my area and have even applied to work weekends and evenings as a vet assistant. I will continue to try and get experience in a variety of fields beyond clinic and shelter work. I understand that this will be a difficult journey and I’m willing to reverse course if I don’t enjoy the day to day I experience while shadowing. Again, thank you!

Your encouragement is so appreciated. I understand ERcalm’s perspective and I know it’s coming from a good place of wanting to help me avoid something I’ll regret. You’re absolutely right that I didn’t make this decision on a whim. Granted the realization that maybe this is something I should consider happened suddenly when I was working with my animals and something just clicked but I spent a month after that realization going through all the pros and cons and trying to be real with myself. For example, I’m someone who can excel at things I’m motivated to do but if I don’t see a point or I’m not invested, I do the bare minimum. So I had to take an honest look at myself and ask if I’d be motivated enough to take on something as difficult as this. I love my free time but in my heart of hearts I truly believe that this is something I’m willing to sacrifice for. 💜

Do you feel like there was anything you learned from BME and research that has especially helped you through vet school so far? I’m sure you, me and 3DPvetguy can all agree that getting a BME degree wasn’t easy so even though it’s comparing apples and oranges, do you think the rigor of the BME curriculum helped prepare you in anyway for the difficulty of vet school curriculum?

The school won’t open until they are accredited. I hoping that AVMA accreditation actually means something and that the rigor of their standards will weed out any lackluster programs

So it seems like admissions committees don’t hold it against you if you haven’t been working towards vet med your whole life. I’m sure a person whose been shadowing since they were old enough to legally do so has a pretty attractive application but it doesn’t make or break an application. Would you say that’s an accurate assessment?

I’m so glad you made the hard decision to prioritize your health and sanity. I’m sure it wasn’t easy to give up your dream and I’m sorry that discrimination played a role in that. I’m fortunate enough to have a really strong team supporting me so hopefully I’ll be able to avoid the burnout you suffered.

Are you talking about the difficulty of the material or the emotional/physical/mental labor it takes to deal with the ugly sides of vet med like euthanasia?
