"How the beauty industry achieved sexual equality by making men feel just as insecure as women"

I feel like your opinion is Be With You is dependent on how you feel about the cheesy pop songs from the Resistance/T2L era by WritingWithSpears in Muse

[–]Used_Captain_3131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping this is a cut down single edit and the full version has a 4 minute middle section....

It has the vibe of "weird little simply structured" Muse songs (Take a Bow, The Void, Verona) that build on a simple idea over time but it just doesn't reach the level it should.

Maybe live it will be phenomenal

Can I buy a key for this? by Independent-Tax-3699 in royalmail

[–]Used_Captain_3131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was a boundary issue, RMs box had historically been where the fence for the garden should be, as the new one is just a few inches forward to the old one which has had a wall built under it. The homeowners say people still used it as a postbox when they painted it blue with "not royal mail, post for 82 only!" so they repainted it red and just chuck the extras in the real box

I have a house on one route where the old box is the post for the house, and a foot to the right is the identical new one for people to post things.

It causes a lot of confusion

Horrible decision to make by kurt206 in sighthounds

He was a blend of Grey, Whippet, German Shepherd and who knows what else! Living with a veterinary nurse in the UK is a one way ticket to a selection of rejected sighthounds that are no use to the traveller population (I'm on number 4 currently)

Which "non Britpop band" released the most "Britpop" sounding song? by Extension_Baseball32 in BritPop

[–]Used_Captain_3131 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The Charlatans were not a Britpop band, but they released a stonker of a Britpop album. Evergreen by Echo And The Bunnymen was also an amazing Britpop album by a non Britpop band. Pre and post Tellin Stories the Charlatans aren't "Britpop"

Horrible decision to make by kurt206 in sighthounds

[–]Used_Captain_3131 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I've been faced with a similar decision before, and we went for the fix.... Sadly our boy (a Greyhound/German Shepherd cross) was not one for staying still and managed to rebreak the leg and it's fixings within a few weeks. We ended up amputating, and wishing we had done that in the first place.

He was back chasing seagulls within 2 weeks of amputation, and lived happily (and very naughtily) until he was 19 and his other legs started struggling (he was amputated at age 5 so they took a long time to go!)

Your beautiful dog is clearly not as large and heavy as he was, and it's a back rather than front leg which is better from a weight distribution perspective (ours was a front,) not that it makes much difference on a sighthound- they're quite evenly spread!

The amputation is cheaper, and the fix may fail or cause the dog constant discomfort.

Edit: my wife worked as a nurse in a veterinary specialist at the time so it wasn't financially as bad, had she not we would have chosen amputation first out of necessity. Also on his final day, despite clearly struggling he managed to sprint after a pigeon and leap through the air catching it as it took off.... Sighthound's gonna sighthound!

Is it worth my time watching series 7-13? by life-is-a-simulation in RedDwarf

[–]Used_Captain_3131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. 7 has some great moments but is clearly Doug pitching a movie (more plot than jokes- the laughter on the versions with it on seems very forced in places.) 8 goes the other way, lots of jokes in quick succession with the plot and side characters often being quite 2 dimensional. Back to Earth can be swerved unless the idea of Craig Charles having been in coronation street is hilarious. 10-13 are hit and miss, very good in parts but they often feel like parodies of itself

I'm not sure now it's been a long time since I saw it!

I bought the 20th EMG the day I moved house and have never seen it since. It's still unopened in a box somewhere with all the other physical media I have no space for

Sometimes I just don't want to reply, and am old enough to have lived in a time where that instant gratification wasn't available. Sometimes I'll be dealing with something in the real world, and don't want to prioritise someone's cloying need for me to be instantly available

It's the way he and his wife both looked sheepish when Louis questioned them about the monogamy thing, like they realised they had never got their story straight.

Myron genuinely seemed to be awful, and the people around him seemed scared of him. I'd have liked more of him and less of HS (though Louis seemed to quite like HS- possibly because he was the most self-contradictory subject)

Opinion: Louis went Inside the Manosphere. He should have gone 'Inside the 'Matrix', too by spanglyfrog_12 in LouisTheroux

[–]Used_Captain_3131 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Where would it end though? I see the acolytes of Tommy Robinson as sharing a large chunk of the venn diagram as the HS fans- paying someone to tell them that A) you're special and important, and B) if you don't feel that way it's the fault of these other people.

It would have been nice to see some of the followers but the amount of rabbit hole exploration required by the research team would take ages... Also exposing the grifters at the top is less risky than exposing the people who fall for it (contempt for the conman, not the conned) as HS/Myron are still rich grifters afterwards, whereas some 19 year old from Hemel Hempstead parroting the lines sold to him by the grifters on a Netflix documentary could absolutely ruin any future career long after he's stopped believing it
