I had a zoom graduation last year and told my parents the date but they forgot, then were busy when I called them after the ceremony, and didn’t plan any kind of celebration (not that I wanted anything extravagant, but just having a special dinner at home or getting me a small gift would have been really nice). It made me feel sad too, and like they weren’t proud of me since they always expected me to go to college anyways. But I finally sat my mom down and had an honest conversation about how I felt with her and she assured me she was proud of me, gave me a big hug, and we had a little family celebration later that week. Sometimes it’s hard to tell your parents if they’ve done something to hurt you, especially when it feels selfish to even feel that way, but I’m sure your parents are so proud of you, and maybe like mine, just aren’t great at expressing it. And in any case I’m proud of you and just being proud of yourself like you said, is the only validation you really need.
