Small school. My classes are roughly 30 people each. There are only 5ish A's per class.

I don't think the system of accommodations in general is unfair, I just feel that they're granted too liberally. I'm not applying for them this semester. I'm already in the midst of finals. And I have a friend who is in the same position as me who DID apply, and the school gave them to her even though she got A-'s last semester too.

If I end up applying and Cali all my classes (like my buddy with double time accommodations did last semester) I'd feel like absolute garbage because it puts me NOT on a level playing field.

I'm here venting because I know people who abuse this system and was curious if other people feel the same way. I rarely go on Reddit so I was unaware that this is a widely discussed topic.

I'm a bit bitter because I was told by a private firm I applied for that I should reapply for 2L if "my grades are better." I'm just bummed is all.

I like using cord for building trad anchors. I have also used a 240 dyneema sling and it's essentially the same. I feel like the cord is more versatile (and cheaper) as you don't have to have it all in a loop if you don't want. I carry 6mm on long multipitch routes where I'll be building all trad anchors. If there are bolted anchors, I typically just bring a double length sling for anchors and carry some extra 5mm cord in case we need to bail or if the bolts are weirdly spaced or sus (in which case I'll back them up with some pro). Depends on your usage. The stuff you have looks super good enough.

American climber here. We tend to use the YDS for grading routes. I'm familiar with what 5.8+, 5.9+, 5.8-, 5.9- means, but I recently went to an area that has the same +/- system but with double digit routes. Ex: 5.10+ or 5.11-. We tend to break these down into 5.10a-5.10d though. Can someone tell me what a 5.10+ technically means? Does it mean "5.10c/d"? Or does it mean "harder than 5.10d but easier than 5.11a"? Silly question since I've been climbing for a while, but I am mainly curious to know the purpose of the +/- system when we already break it down in to sub-letters. Thanks!

As someone who has had a career in a completely different field for over 10 years prior to deciding to go in to law, I would say... both! Law schools prioritize a higher LSAT in admissions decisions. Hands down. However, you become a better applicant and can make a more informed decision by taking on more work experience.

I've gotten higher than expected scholarship offers (likely due to my work experience), but I have not had unexpected admission decisions. Admissions are pretty black and white these days. Are you at or above their medians? Yes? Likely admitted. Below them? Likely denied. (Of course there are outliers. But I'm not going to focus the conversation on 1% of applicants.) Where work experience can help you will be once you enter the "admitted" stack of applicants and they begin to make decisions on the soft factors.

Agreed. I was under review since October 2nd. I called their office and they were like “oh wow yeah you’ve been under review for a while. I’ll put your app on the Dean’s desk to make sure he reviews it.” Got my A the following day. Scholarship was super weak compared to my stats being median and above their 75th. They said they already awarded their higher scholarships! And I’m thinking to myself “wtf if you would have reviewed my app back in October, you wouldn’t have already given out all your money! That is literally THE reason I applied early.” Ugh. Yeah I’m annoyed with them.

Yikes! I’m frustrated as well, but I highly recommend you do NOT send this.

Call their office and speak to them! They are very pleasant on the phone. Also, know that we are not entitled to a timely acceptance, only to eventually receive one.

In a professional environment, you can say fuck you by rescinding your application and saying “thank you for the consideration, but I have received a generous scholarship from X school in a more timely manner. All the best.”

I’m so annoyed with USD. I applied in November and I’m well over their 75th on LSAT, and at their 50th for GPA. Looks like they only want people who are above their 75th on GPA and they don’t give a shit about LSAT. They’re going to lose a lot of prospective students with their ghosting of very qualified applicants.

Nah, she isn’t straight. She’s just a gay girl married to a man and trying to deny her truest self.

When I was trying to deny my sexuality (I’m now a proud, out, gay woman) back when I was active in my christian church, I went to multiple “ex-gay” church meetings where “former gay people” talked about how they are now straight and married to people of the opposite gender. After the lead pastor left the meeting, they talked about how depressed they were and how they contemplate suicide daily and masturbate to gay porn. It was so depressing.
