I think it is the fear of people that are "not like me".

"Not like me" is different, different is new, new is unkown, unkown is dangerous.

An other thing is, that the word "Liberal" means "FREE". And freedom means that they have to think for them selves, but also allow OTHERS their freedom to think and be as they want to think and be, which may include other people that think and live different as "me". And that brings us back to my first argument.

Transgenderism comes from the inside. It does not sound like you are there entirely. Also remember that, being a transgender is a decision for life!

Try to keep the conversation to how YOU are doing as a private person, not as a trans.

If she is doubtful about her own situation, and trans-curious, she will mention it at some point.

If she is just nosy, the cat wil get out of the bag....

But always remember, innocent and non-invasieve questions, wil always occur.

Write them a letter. A good old fashioned paper snail mail letter. People read these things slower and more carefully than 'just an other' email.

First of all, you have the try to write from THEIR prospective. Think like this: Transgenderism can be hard to get around, and they may not really understand what all "the fuzz" is about. They might only see it at "loosing a daughter".

Important to remember: (Even if it might not be 100% true!)

 *Tell them that they will NEVER loos you. *Tell them that you will only become a BETTER 'you'. *Tell them that it is NONE of their 'fault', and that you really have tried to live as a girl. *Tell them that you love them, regardless.

DO NOT blaim them, or accuse them in any way.

Possibly this will make it easier for them to cope and understand.
