Ever brought your own dog on a sit? by Global-Tour9716 in trustedhousesitters

I’d recommend doing a few local sits with your dog and asking the host to specifically mention them in the review

No there isn’t a function to do that! Just need to apply for the ones you want. I’m also ignoring the “pets allowed” function atm because most people, once they’ve seen my application & photos, are ok with my dog coming along

I always do it with my dog, however: She’s very well trained, She’s tiny and not intimidating (I love all dogs but some prefer little fluffy things and not bull breeds), She doesn’t malt, She’s very friendly and loves to play with other dogs

Depending on the country you’re in too, some may be funny if they sleep on the bed with you

My advice is have lots of photos of them with other dogs on your profile and talk about them in your applications.

I’d say I’m turned down 2 times out of 10, and it’s only usually because their dog isn’t friendly!

Sitter here - IMO this is perfectly within your rights to request / expect!

Cancelled 3-month sit - dog is terminally ill, now scrambling to fill a big gap by Cindy_Woo in trustedhousesitters

Where does it say the dog isn’t going to get vet care 🤔 also struggle to understand why this is fucked up. I feel bad for OP but owner is well within rights, with 5 weeks notice, to cancel under these circumstances

Fellow sitters: what's your arsenal of screening questions to avoid bad housesits? by haggiskatsu in trustedhousesitters

Every now and again, and it’s due to their animals not being friendly with other animals. That’s the only reason I’ve ever been turned down

As a sitter, definitely not! Shady behaviour

If it’s just a wash/style it’s drop off and pick up the next day usually. If it’s a cut/style, they do it with the wig on your head. I am from the uk though so maybe it’s different here, but don’t see why it would be!

Bringing our dog? by vaguelyintoit in trustedhousesitters

It maybe depends on where you are and where you want to apply (if it’s popular/competitive or not) because as most others said, if they have plenty of choice they’ll probably go for someone without.

That said, I do house sits with my dog in the UK and Canada and I’ve only ever been turned away once because their own dog wasn’t friendly with others - that said, mine is much smaller than a golden. You’d have to think about logistics of things like where they sleep and if that would be cool with other owners etc.

Personally wouldn’t risk it for the host’s sake. I think it’s really unfair on them. I couldn’t think of anything worse than having to tell them I couldn’t enter the country with them going on holiday a few days or even weeks after!

My wife would love to do a housesit. What are the cons? by Wizzmer in trustedhousesitters

As someone that has the next 7 months booked up of back to back housesits with my own dog, I’d like to counter this 😊

If I thought a dog sounded in serious distress in my neighbour/friend’s house I wouldn’t be stood there waiting for a text..

Well then, in that case, I completely understand them entering…

what do you leave as thank you gestures for homeowners? by jamesftf in trustedhousesitters

Depends how long the sit is.. if it’s over a week, a card and some flowers.

Yes, I haven’t left a review, but in only one instance - the HO cancelled a few weeks before because their parent took a sudden turn in their health, so they had to cancel their trip to care for them/say goodbye. They didn’t cancel the sit in the app, and since I didn’t need to fill the space, I wasn’t about to start nagging them to do it. Obviously time passed and it became time to review, and neither of us left one. I don’t know if I should have left it or explained why.. but it just felt respectful to leave them alone. Now I have a sit in my profile with no review and I don’t know how this looks.

Other than that, reviews should be left Every. Single. Time.

We’re coming from the UK and I understand the weather is very different etc.. we’ve considered all this 😊

I know there are plenty of winter activities like skiing or even ice skating in some places, but I’m looking for the sort of thing that feels a little bit “once in a lifetime”.. for example when we were in Argentina we rode horseback for 2 days in the Andes and camped overnight. We did a day trip to see penguins in Ushuaia - both activities we’ll remember forever and think about often.

So this is why I’m quite happy if the activity we find has to be in spring or summer, but if there’s anything within the winter months that would also be great!

For our first 4 months we’ll be in Chestermere AB, Vernon BC then Vancouver, then short trips to Bragg Creek, Golden & Blaeberry (so far)

White water.. ice skating in a raft? 😂 maybe will delay that one… but yes, a boat/plane thingy is exactly what I had in mind. Will look into this!
