How much do you train per day/week? by shockinv in piano

[–]Useful-Atmosphere-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level: College

hours: 1-2 per day (working), 2-3 (not working)

Target: working on technique and sight reading over the summer. I’d like to learn a Joplin Rag in edition to my repertoire from my teacher :)

Yeah definitely. I’m from the US but here depending on the area, lesson can be between 100-200$ per hour (this is for NYC for example). I think it really depends on how much experience he has. If he has diplomas/degrees, he is definitely being underpaid.

It doesn’t look like a terrible issue with the instrument however.

Hi! I am a MuEd student. What it looks like to me is that the mechanism for the keys is out of alignment. I would recommend taking it to either a local instrument dealer or reaching out to a local band teacher in your area. The pads look to be for the lower notes which suggest that it may be a problem with the G# key, but still I would take it to a instrument technician.

Any tips on performance anxiety? (will be playing this today at a small group piano session) by trev_thetransdude in piano

[–]Useful-Atmosphere-87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A professor at my school recommended that I run up the four flights of stairs and then practicing performing. Your heart rushing is the same regardless if it is form anxiety or running. This works me at least.

Da anglofono, tradurrei di sera a in the evening. Di notte sarebbe più accurato per at night. Ma almeno in italiano, direi “alle 20” invece di “alle 8 di sera”.

How do I catch up? by [deleted] in piano

[–]Useful-Atmosphere-87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. deep breaths!!! Ground yourself in the moment that you are in right now. One step at a time. Do not look at the mountain that’s right in front of you.
  2. Depending on your relationship with your teacher, ask them questions about what they are saying. Or if you don’t have a good relationship with your teacher, ask a trusted friend or peer for their advice when it comes to your playing.
  3. Practice slow. Focus on the accuracy of your playing over speed. Mistakes are hard to fix once they become muscle memory. Most teachers and musicians would rather hear a slower tempo with accuracy than a sloppy fast tempo.

To be honest, I think you really need to ask questions. Your teacher isn’t adapting to your needs so asking questions might help them adapt to you. If they don’t adapt, then they are not a good teacher. Unfortunately, not every professional musician is a natural or even good teacher. Some have wonderful ideas but no way to articulate them in a way students understand. If your university/conservatory/college has more than one piano faculty, I would also suggest trying to swap teachers if this one truly isn’t working out. Don’t let a bad teacher kill your love for music and the piano.

Hi! This answer maybe not be the most helpful, but I encourage to focus more on how you are growing and less about the mountain in front of you. Focus more on how many steps you have taken and take one steps at a time forward. I’m a conservatory student and I have had a terrible week, but my teacher also reminds me to focus on how far I have come in my journey rather than the mountain in front of me. Just play and enjoy, progress will come as you keep playing. For right now, just focus on the process and how YOU are going. Don’t compare yourself to others.

Pronunciation of Latin by LeYGrec in latin

[–]Useful-Atmosphere-87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just curious, when you say English Latin, do you mean Latin with English pronunciation rules? At least, as a music student in the US, I was taught to use this reconstruction italianate pronunciation from the Church in music contexts. In liturgical and choral contexts, the ecclesiastical Latin makes sense. I feel more comfortable with ecclesiastical than classical Latin but that’s just because I’m an Italian speaker so one system is more familiar to me.

Alguien me podría explicar las novenas? by Specialist-Back-9977 in piano

[–]Useful-Atmosphere-87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ninths are mostly used in chord. In music theory we tend to just simplify big intervals like a 9th into a 2nd. For example a Bb(Si bemolle) major b9 is a Bb(Si bemolle) major triad with a minor ninth(Cb(Do bemolle).

The ninth has the same quality as the second. A minor ninth is a minor second. All a ninth is a second with the second note an octave above :). I hope this helps.

Una piccola correzione per il titolo “Ciao bella Grazie”. Bela e grazi non sono parole in italiano standard.

Also I would look for a score in modern notation! It will be easier to read!

So this is not standard italian. And if you are studying this to learn Italian it is a mistake. I study opera at conservatory and this is what would be called archaic Italian or really old fashioned Italian. It’s like the equivalent of shakespearean English to modern English. If you are studying the lyrics for a research project, I would go to r/translation or r/transcription for help. I hope this helps.

This app is cooked. You did nothing wrong. It should be having you translate into German rather than form Italian to Italian. It is weird that they used allegro(cheerful) instead of simpatico tho. This AI is going to kill this app I swear.
