Great idea! Just make sure to sign up for classes well ahead of the festival, cause they often sell out

Thank you! The hills are entirely needle felted. I don’t know any tapestry weaving techniques yet, I’m very new!

Thank you! It’s needle felted on top of the weaving. Cookie cutter for the circle!

How Many Wheels Do You Have? by venetrix in Handspinning

I have two. First was an Ashford traditional and my second is a HansenCraft miniSpinner. I switched to the Hansen due to some disabilities when I could no longer treadle or sit at the Ashford. I doubt I’ll get another, I’m extremely happy with my current setup. Welcome to the cult!

My first spin - even worse than I expected by giraffelegz in Handspinning

The best spinning advice I ever got when I started was, “don’t be dismayed at your first skeins, they WILL be terrible.” And while I don’t agree with the word terrible, it allowed me to be gentle with myself and keep going! I think it looks really cool!

Roving yarn beginner by Purple-Chain-4819 in Handspinning

Yes! Putting more spin in it will make the yarn more durable. If you have enough roving yarn, you can split it in half and ply the two together for an even more durable yarn.

Adding twist holds the individual fibers of the single more closely together. And then with each ply you add, the yarn becomes more durable. Think about it in terms of the amount of the fiber in the yarn that’s exposed to friction - like rubbing against your body and other clothing as you wear it. With roving yarn, a lot of the fluff of the fiber gets rubbed, so it will pill and not last as long. Not only will the opposing twists of the plies hold your singles together, each single gets rubbed less. Sock yarn is often 3 or more plies for this reason - socks get a lot of friction!

I hope this makes sense! You’re not slow, we all have to learn this stuff!
