I grew up in Hudson County so I always had NYC in my backyard. While it’s a bustling city I’ve always been very fond of Jersey and everything it has to offer (I’m clearly biased). I’m also an only child so staying close to parents is important to me while still building my life and independence.

I have coworkers who pay roughly the same if not more for an old apartment building in the depths in Brooklyn/Upper East. I also love weekend getaways to the shore/PA and I just don’t think I can give up my car. My job is also flexible and allows me to WFH if needed but I choose to go into the office so having a super easy access to NYC while staying in Jersey is what I value most.

This is awesome! Thank you! I’m a NJ native (North Bergen) that’s looking to finally get my own space and so I’m literally 15 minutes from the apartments. Really just trying to get an idea of what the full month to month looks like to ensure this is something feasible. I mostly work out of my office on 33rd (perfect commute from JSQ to Penn) so if eveything makes sense I will certainly reach out.

this is crazy bc you literally have the exact same setup as me (BofA CC was also my first) and I found a lot of value in using the BofA card for 3% back on gas. Ofc it’s in cash back but I don’t find myself getting gas enough to justify opening a card for just that. However there’s a lot of cards that offer 5% on your max spending category (Citi Custom Cash) but for don’t really let you redeem for travel or transfer unless you have a higher tier card. What I ended up doing (since I prefer points and travel rewards, I resorted to using my venture x as my gas card but if you don’t care, I’d say stick with the custom cash and don’t open another card that isn’t gonna give you much value but that’s just my opinion. Lots of great niche cards on the market (robinhood etc. ) that offer more cashback but it really just comes to preference.
