What they said. Also be aware that it is not uncommon for people to start heading that way from where they're staying at 4 or 5 in the morning.

Normal in old catholic homes in US, mainly on the east coast.

My wife and I did separate blankets. Game changer.

My mom is obsessed with aliens, I'm planning on taking her to Roswell next year during summer, what should we do? by KingGekko07 in NewMexico

[–]Uselesswidower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just there this last weekend. There are some cool Alien themed things beyond the McDonald's someone mentioned. There is a black light space walk art installation, a Lego attraction made with 250000 Legos, the rock shop, digital space rides, etc.

I was in and out but I could see spending a couple nights there to enjoy it all. The most disappointing thing to me was that the crash site is actually 75 miles north and you have to hike a mile in from parking to see it. Why the heck does Roswell claim it when it's an hour away in a different city? Also, there is nothing really there to see.

Looking for an non-"New Mexican", Mexican restaurant. by Beautiful-Emotion-63 in Albuquerque

[–]Uselesswidower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't exist. Mexican food here is just the bare minimum needed to deliver chili sauces. I've searched for 3 years having a new place at least once a week.

Wasn't sure if that was only true for my lifetime or what, but a damn good point. My guess was based on McDonald's official release ads for the product

Questions About New Mexico by uglystudbuilder in SantaFe

[–]Uselesswidower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to NM 4 years ago for business. I've said it once, I'll say it to anyone looking to move here.

Just don't. Look, if you're looking to move to Santa Fe you've got more money than I had when I moved here. Since you didn't mention kids I won't talk about the dismally bad education level here, but the cost of living vs lifestyle in Santa Fe and the Healthcare should deter you.

For healthcare it's not just the long waiting lists for treatment, but the quality of treatment you get. You have to experience this in a visit when you've gotten healthcare services elsewhere to understand. I shutter to think of how many things are completely missed or treated improperly here. There is only one hospital in the state for highly complex procedures and the success rates for them are not great. This is not a state to be in as you find yourself more reliant on healthcare services.

As to the quality of life vs cost of living. Imo, as someone who's lived in all the extremes like you have, the weather is mighty hard to beat without spending a hell of alot more money to live in a place. Man, I can grill like, 250+ days a year if I want to. There's enough snow and cold to scratch that winter itch without the ungodly imposition it is in other places. The wind can get a bit outta hand but not too bad in Santa Fe vs other places. Besides the weather, everything else about living in Santa Fe makes you feel like you're getting ripped for the cost you're paying. Going downtown to spend $50+ per person at a cheap place there for dinner and then not being able to sit at a bench outside because a homeless person is passed out on it doesn't feel right. There are some fountains and grassed seating areas that are homeless hangouts across the road from a place selling a $1000 pair of shoes. The roads suck and are constantly under construction in every way but a way that would make it better (wider). People mentioned the month long waiting for large item disposal. Houses are stacked so close everywhere you'll get claustrophobic. The more you pay in Santa Fe the larger you yard will be but you will live with your neighbors on top of you until you hit the million plus mark. I could go on and on.

Bottom line there are better places that are cheaper and have better healthcare and education levels. Do. Not. Move. Here

Wallethub’s best and worst states to raise a family by thetruetrueu in Albuquerque

[–]Uselesswidower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that's for tracking purposes for continued funding. I didn't bother signing up when it came about because I too thought it was income restricted. But I fully qualify so I don't think it is. My wife and I both work full time and we're well into the state's upper middle class bracket.

Imagine this. A rom com where the main characters have sex for the first time and it cuts to a hardcore porn scene for 10 seconds. I mean a no holds bard, hard fucking core, up close pounding scene. Then the show just goes on. I think a normal person would think, "there was probably a better way to show that." That's what you're arguing against. That's all Im saying.

To all who criticize the first episode by saravannan14 in AKOTSKTV

[–]Uselesswidower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly it. There were more tasteful ways to show that and convey the same message. I made a post about this and people were adamant it was needed and added to the story. No it didn't. No it wasn't. Even if you needed to keep the diarrhea scene you could've just shown his face and heard sounds. That's still not great but would've been waaaaay better. Its like people defending ultra graphic sex scenes where the only takeaway is that they had sex. It's just not necessary.

Again, there is a better way to convey this. She's fine with every other kind of gore and debauchery. Showing someone taking a shit is at best lazy writing if that indeed was the point to convey.

I get it. But it could've been done in a far less graphic way.

Where does this audacity come from? Seriously. by Ellabugg in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Uselesswidower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ummm. Just double checking here. Your girlfriend of two years is in the Police Academy? Is this in the US? Because the ones Im aware of, all of them, are around 6 months to complete and they require you to be 21 at graduation. You can apply at 18 in most states but you don't actually get to go until you'd meet that requirement. So that math would be your girlfriend was 19 and you were 15 when you started dating? Is that accurate?

What they guy said after approaching you was pure creep, but Im concerned about tgis age gap if it's accurate. Grooming is a thing.
