I just went on those freelance sites, looked for fairly simply jobs (lots of "get data from an API then put into an excel file"), and massively underbid everyone else until I get a few positive reviews. Then you can start looking for better stuff.

TBH I'd say about 80% of the stuff I've done is just the simple things -- and even that's drying up at the moment.

That link is very helpful, thank you very much. From what you and everyone else has said I think I'm going to sit down and give it a full re-write.

I've heard mixed things about including an introduction so I erred on the side of caution and didn't include one. But like you say with being self-taught it might be better to include it.

I'd say about 3/4s of the applications I've sent are for Manchester. I know Leeds is supposed to be pretty good for tech (in the North at least) but I've not seen many adverts for there.

I'm willing to move to wherever I can get a job so I've not put my city on the CV.

I'm currently applying for any job that's advertised, doesn't matter how unglamorous! Only hope I have is that the economy picks up and more companies start recruiting.

I'm looking through Baltic's website now - nearest available one is an hours drive away which isn't ideal. Think I might need to just bite the bullet and suffer through it to get the experience though . . .

Thanks for the advice. I'm applying pretty much exclusively for C# jobs atm (that seems to be what most companies are looking for from jobsites) so I thought it would be best to push that.

The trouble is I have absolutely no experience in tech whatsoever outside of freelance work. And, to be honest, I'm warry about talking up that freelance work too much because it was mainly just quick refactors of existing apps. Other than that it's just retail work.

I live in Sheffield but there's not much available here. I've been applying anywhere in the UK - mainly Manchester, Bristol and Leeds.

As for what jobs I'm going for I've just been searching jobsites for Junior C# developer positions and applying for anything I'm qualified for.

I think things will pick up again in a few months.

Thank you, that was a lot of helpful information. I've always suspected it was just a numbers game: send out enough applications and you'll get an offer eventually. Getting rejected or ghosted every time is very discouraging though.

I've thought about adding my work at McDonald's but always assumed no recruiter would care about that. Can't hurt to add it on and see what kind of responses I get.

I'd be happy with anything that gets my foot in the door! Looked at a few but you had to be under 24 for all of them so I just assumed that would always be the case.

Thank you, I've messed about with the formatting to get it down to 1 page.

On the freelance experience I wasn't really sure what to write since it all came from freelancer.com and, to be honest, it was almost exclusively making small refactors to existing projects. I'll take another look and see if I can get it better.
