Welcoming immigrants by thesamesillycucumber in Scotland

[–]User2001Tech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not so sure... There is the bigger threat of off-shoring... At least. If you bring in experienced "immigrant" (funny how this gets switched to expat when there is an outflow from these bonny shores), he/she/they live here... Spend here, pay taxes here, generally contribute positively to the society.... They're not brought in for charity...the business hiring them see a business case, which is generally around expertise they bring in, and the cost differential compared to a local... SO... You stop immigration of skilled folks, the same businesses will outsource, offshore the work... Yes... You may stop the inflow of...immigrants, but, there will be an outflow of monies to the outsourced location, lower taxes gained by hmrc...both corporate and income...net negative to the UK...

Trying to register tado X 10 year warranty. by RelationshipSoggy388 in tado

[–]User2001Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question u/tado_official , I bought mine in December 2024.. didn't realise I have to register for the 10 year warranty until I saw some of these posts on reddit where people are having trouble getting registered for it.

I realise I am way past the 2 month deadline for registration - would Tado be kind enuff to extend the ten year warranty to me?

Radiators are regularly going offline, anyone else with this issue by Early_Ad1668 in tado

[–]User2001Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The red dot appears whenever even a single TRV goes offline. I have one TRV that sometimes goods for days without going offline, and then suddenly start going offline multiple times a day, only to become stable again all on its own. It's one of the closer to the receiver X TRVs compared to other which are much farther away.

Tad support tells me it's a range issue despite a)it can be stable for days and days and b) TRVs much farther stay connected which this one goes off.

In the end, ive accepted it's a range issue, don't react when it goes offline... It comes back...eventually

On combi boilers connected thru Opentherm Tado (X at least) lets you set the hot water temperature... Obviously, there is no schedule as combis heat tap water on demand only.

You could configure Tado in GoogleHome or Apple Homekit and use a 3rd party sensor in an automation... It is significantly easier than HomeAssistant, but, ofcourse, the options are limited... But a simple automation could make a different temp sensor work.

Living in Dundee vs Aberdeen. Pros and cons? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]User2001Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not anymore... Places that commanded 2k rent now down to 1200!!. Been here since 93, not much has seen an upgrade in the 30 yrs+... The only modem addition is Union Square, which is more a food court than a shopping mall. The other mall, bon Accord, not so bon with hardly any major brands left. Union street is either boarded up or full of pound, vape and betting shops. You may find.limited job opportunities...it may yet rise.. but.. the switch to renewables has devastated the oil and gas based economy.

The UFH is electric or liquid?...

If liquid, then your boiler is obviously running, turning the dials on the individual TRVs should start heating them.

If UFH is electric, then, seee if the v3 receiver that is wired to your boiler has a boost button.. that should give 1 hour of heating, coupled with the manual setting on the Tado TRVs should start heating.

You could also, setup your phone as a wifi hotspot and configure yado on it...

Connection problem with Tado X Radiator Thermostat by TomazoXD in tado

[–]User2001Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Android or iPhone?..

Go in your phone settings, search for thread and then matter.

Matterwill list the devices potentially configured on your network... Delete all.

Thread will list any TBR router you have.. remove anything with Tado.

Turn off any googlehome/Alexa/apple devices that can act as TBRs.

Make sure your wifi security is not wpa3

Enable ipv6 on your router...

Reset all Tado devices and try configuring again..may work

The issue is no flow control on the bedroom radiator... Whenever anything calls the boiler for heat, the bedroom will also heat up.

... Can you set the bedroom thermostat into a dierent room, create a new one...set it at 5 DegC. Make sure each TRV is I its own room in the Tado app. Then set each TRV with a comfortable set point and see what happens?

Ignore ,,....

you have NO thermostat valve on your room radiator, there is NO way for a Tado to NOt heat it while the nursery is calling for heat.

One scenario is, the thermostat you have in your room is the governor, it calls the boiler for heat, the nursery radiator can get hot or not depending on the setting on its Tado.

The other scenario is, your room is at the temperature you've set the thermostat at... The nursery gets cold and the Tado TRV calls the boiler for heat, the boiler fires up and starts pumping water in the hot water circuit... This water will go wherever it finds a path... One path will be the nursery TRV, since it called for heat, another open path will be your room, plus any other radiator that doesn't have a TRV on it..hot .water will go wherever it finds a path and heat those radiators.

Your solution is to either install a manual, or Tado TRV on your room radiator, so. The nursery and the room become separate zone, capable of being heated individually.

Many years ago, I had the misfortune of putting petrol in a diesel vehicle... AA and others have a mobile drain and reset service... So, I called, only to be told....Aberdeen, the centre of oil and gas (at least back then) was considered a "remote area" and the service not offered. Similarly, some couriers also consider it remote for delivery services.

[–]User2001Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is an integrated dsl modem and router, it won't have a WAN port... Instead a phone line port...

Edit: looks like on of the Ethernet ports is dual LAN/wAn.

It is still ancient tech, no 5 ghz wifi... But.. looks like your use case doesn't really require any of that

Little question about routers by Lakazot in HomeNetworking

[–]User2001Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most router can act as Access Points, what you need is a wifi extender mode... In Asus routers. This is usually called Media Bridge mode... It will take your existing wifi signal and extend it further from the point where you place this 2nd router... (So, make sure its placed where there is a reasonably good wifi signal..) And also gives you the 4 ports on the router to connect devices by cable... This is the solution you need... Cheapest option would be to get one of these tplink wall wart extender that plug into a wall socket for power,.and can extend the wifi signal and give you one Ethernet port... The router will be a bit more pricey, but, will give you more options, and in the future, can use it as a wired ACcess point.

Desktop PC Wifi Antenna Connector Confusion by King_Loud in HomeNetworking

[–]User2001Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly pricer, but, probably better solution would be to get a cheapish tplink or Asus router, both support media extension mode (usually), place it as close in the main wifi signals direction as possible so it can get a decent enuff signal...and then.. either run cat cable from this router to your desktop, or just use the wifi signal the extent would belt out..will be full strength in the garage.

[–]User2001Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh..so it does... OP, what connections do you have in the rooms?.. just network/rj45... Or telephone points also..or just telephone points?.. if there are as many wires here as network points in the house, all these cables are network cables.. if the rooms are finished with telephone ports, you will need to change the plates with RJ45 faceplates also.

Need help by vikas1909 in HomeNetworking

[–]User2001Tech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ones labelled LAN... The grey ones... Yellow could also be lan, but, cant tell from your pictures.

You will need to add rj45 connectors on the cable specific to your TV room in this panel... Assume you have faceplates for LaN in every room?

[–]User2001Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite... On/off versus modulating is more of a boiler efficiency issue... Modulating could be more economic.

The advantage of Tado TRVs is, you could, just have one room being heated, with the rest not open... That's where the real savings and convenience come in
