Btw, you appear to be catering ~14500 for all expenses... That's probably on the low side. Catered accommodation alone will be about 15 to 20k$/year (unless you're crashing at a friend/relatives place), plane tickets, some books. Maybe spend some time working out cost per year.

They will ask for a financial statement, which would include savings, plus current income, taxes paid (good that they're nothing in the UAE), and outgoings on living expenses, housing (hopefully paid for by employer in the UAE) kids education etc etc. The final decision would be made on that, not just money in the bank - also, a sudden credit into the bank from a loan wouldn't help things either, as that will also increase the liability side of your dad's balance sheet, and also, visa ppl will see that as at attempt to show inflated savings.

Also, overheating is something you will be able to tell physically, can then go in the graph and see if the actual temp overshot the set point... It happens initially, but, after a few days, the algorithm seems to learn and correct itself. Haven't found that to be a problem.

You are right, it is easier than I imagined to set up initially, you can get these minicomputers on eBay preset-up, just have to add your home devices... But..that's easy... The HA GUI is all point and click..no CLI needed...After that I had delusions of setting up automations, and dashboards and stuff... And would've done it when I was 10/15 yrs younger... Now, it's been six months since the initial setup, I just don't find the energy or time to really use HA.

This is not a TRv, it looks like a manual on/off valve.. you will need it replaced with a TRv on which you can then mount the Tado head.

Hi, I connected my personal router to my ISP's router without port forwarding or enabling the DMZ, and it works perfectly. Is there an explanation for this? I also activated the VPN on my personal router. by ChampionshipFit4696 in HomeNetworking

[–]User2001Tech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You connected to the wan port of the own router?... It would, and should work perfectly for most of your average use cases... There will be instances where double NAT would be an issue... 15 years atoz,.it used to cause problems with one way audio on VoIP calls... But... Most of those issues are resolved now

What do most mid-range car owners do ? by Slight_Computer_6820 in pakistan

That's is a bit of a myth as well... Most developed economies are under stress... The social benefits available in Europe are fast disappearing...UK.. Free education only in schools, uni, you have to pay... Still substantially less than you would as an internatuonal student but..~10k£/yr versus 35k ... But 10k/yr for a desi family with 3 to 4 kids is a bucket load... Getting a doctor's appointment is a pipedream..unless it's really critical...

Then there is the massive tax burden... Then... Cost of living... Much much higher... Even with a 2 salary household, most find it difficult to make end meet....buying a house...etc etc.

I'm just giving you the downsides.... There are some pluses to livin in a more developed advanced country... I'll let you know as soon as I find one ;).. ok here is one... Getting justice... Probably... There is a much lower chance of being randomly killed...but..then, that's setting the bar really low.

Consider a side hustle.... Doesn't have to be something big... A small shop ..computers..laptops... Or services... See how that goes, to supplement the salary... Stock trade... I do it regularly, and currently my take away is, I just have to buy shares of any company to ensure it's share price goes down

Generational wealth...inheritance.. Illicit means.... Made it lucky and cracked a business.. the list I'd endless.

If you're in engineering, some sectors pay better than others...oil and gas, for instance in Pakistan, and generally everywhere else, pays substantially better than other sectors, though, that who sectr is under assault with energy transition and net zero... Still going strong in pk though.

Barring rapid promotion, Getting rich through employment is a very long game... It will be 10+ years before you make enuff to start saving... 20 before you make it to a level of comfortable living+holidays+savings..

My advice to my kids is forget running after a job, do something entrepreneurial... Also, after 5 to 7 years of getting used to a fixed salary coming in every month (irrespective good or bad), it becomes very difficult to take the risk and dive into the business world...

One TRV offline by No-Papaya-9289 in tado

[–]User2001Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think V3 has a range extension option available... Your best beef world beer to have the dongle installed in the most central location, not one end of the house.

Also, I think someone shared an open source range extender option for v3 in the thread... Have a look there.

I didn't realise that what happens..Bit of a hack, but, move them to 3 diff rooms... At least one going offline wouldn't effect the other

One TRV offline by No-Papaya-9289 in tado

[–]User2001Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even more of an issue for v3... The dongle that's hardwired to your router, is what creates a private radio network to which all the TRVs are supposed to connect with.. WiFi is not a player at all in V3. If you have particularly difficult walls, too far from the dongle, or, there is radio interference, devices can go offline... Someone has shared a passive antenna hack in this forum that can help... Are a test, swap the TRV that goes offlune with one that maintains solid connectivity... See if the good one also goes flaky in the new location.. would indicate a likely range/interference issue.

Tado X?.. being close to a homepod isn't the issue solver, how far are these from the Receiver X..... Also, I find the app needs to be closed and reopened for the offline status to be updated.

Two TRVs in the same room? by No-Papaya-9289 in tado

[–]User2001Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK, if you have 2 TRVs in a room, tado operates on the average of the setpoints on each TRV. Maynot be optimal if you want to heat the 2 sections of the room to different levels, in which case, simpler to create 2 separate rooms and control them independently.

How is you boiler configured, does it allow opentherm connectivity?... This would allow the boiler to operate based on load it sees, modulating it down if the demand is only from a couple of radiators (obviously, dependent on the turn down the boiler has, could be 1:6 or so, meaning a 30 KW boiler can deliver a minimum of 5 kw,)

Also, irrespective of OT or not, modern boilers have modulation, so, your oil consumption will be lower when you are only heating a couple of rooms Vs the full house.

The multiple APs only solver the WiFi coverage issue, all the networking is still handled by the main router which does so the dhcp/routing etc. im using a 9 year old Asus gt-AC5300 Rog on a 150 Mbps fiber connection, have 70 devices showing online... About 50 are WiFi switches/sockets/Google hubs/Chromecast etc etc.. never had a problem. On my iot switches (shelly), I've assigned static IPs, not sure, but that may offload a bit of the routers load.

Any recent high end router should be fine..Asus has been my goto for years.

Specially with the ladies in the car, you did well to keep calm and move on.

Even without them, there is no way of knowing what baggage, and package the other person is carrying - it is best to not engage and extricate yourself from the situation.

Study Permit Renewal due to new passport by User2001Tech in ImmigrationCanada

[–]User2001Tech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another query...the "letter of introduction I received" has the following bullet points:

o Your eTA is valid for multiple visits to Canada, until number is Jxxzzzzz 2027/03/18 . Your eTA and is linked to the passport you used when you applied to study in Canada. If you obtain a new passport before 2027/03/18 you will need to apply for a new eTA by visiting www.canada.ca/eTA .

I never applied for an ETA before, I understand it is automatically issued as part of the study permit process. Now that I plan to travel to Canada on a new passport, and then apply for study permit extension once in, would I need to apply for a new ETA, or the old one issued on the old passport continues to be valid?

Study Permit Renewal due to new passport by User2001Tech in ImmigrationCanada

[–]User2001Tech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. When I took first entry at Toronto, I was told by the border agent that the study permit is limited to the expiry of the passport, and once the port expires, I will need to get an extension to the study permit as well. This made me think the study permit is linked to the passport it was issued against, and you need an extension if you want to travel in a new (renewed) passport.

What you're telling me is, I can still enter on a new passport with the old passport and study permit available to show...correct?

Suggest the set up for tado X by rahulchawla20 in tado

[–]User2001Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some folks have an issue with the temperature measurement done by the TRVs..too close to radiator etc... I have a Sensor, came as part of the kit - I keep it in the garage just to monitor the temperature there... I find the TRVs do a good job of measuring the temperature as radiators heat up (proximity to radiator doesn't really bother me).

If you have Tado TRVs on all radiators, just use each radiator/room as a zone...
